It is walking distance from the Teatro National and the Gold Museum, just a block from the Morazon Park/Temple of Music.
Some beautiful colourful masks and museum reproductions.

The gold creations and art created by the precolumbian people may be considered better than some of the recent art I have seen in some more modern museums.

We explored the museum after spending time at the park and it was a lovely art gallery, well worth a quick visit
The outdoor sculpture is lovely, and the building housing the museum is the former airport terminal, and is worth the visit on its own.

The other museums are definitely worth a visit, too, but if time is short, this one will give you the most to take in and leave you with the best understanding of Costa Rica.
The pre-columbian history museums were very educational.

The price was significantly cheaper than other museums in the city (under $1.50 USD).
This former airport terminal had tastefully been turned into a nice museum.

This museum has a vast and very well preserved collection of species and replicas (for what I understand one of the most impressive in Latin America).
We visit this museum every time we are in San Jose.

The layout of the museum is excellent -- you start out in a garden area with beautiful local plants which leads you to the actual museum.
We found other San Jose museums (Jade Museum, Gold Museum) expensive (so we didn't go in!), but the entry price here was reasonable and well worth it for what the museum contained.
