When I decided to go to this place I had my doubts about everything they offer, but they really give you what they offer and something that has no price.... the satisfying opportunity to meet such special people...
it rains a lot but that's part of the place.
I will recommend it to my friends and family.

Thank you so very much to our guides Orlando and Lorena and our driver, Roberto!!

Waiting for us with smiles, our tour began with a stop at a local produce market where we were given a tour of the property and Orlando pointed out and explained the native plants and birds there. To our surprise, once we boarded the van, we were given a bowl of delicious tropical fruit!

On our way to the forest, we traveled through scenic areas where we learned about the bountiful banana plantations. Once we arrived at the "chocolate" forest, Lorena provided us with a very fascinating tour that included medicinal plants, flowers, trees, animals, a little history on the Mayan culture, and ultimately, delicious hand-made chocolate!! Enchanting!!

Our adventure then took us to the beautiful Cahuita National Park where Orlando guided us on a little adventure along the beach where we saw coconut trees, native plants, birds, iguanas and sloths--sooo much fun!!

Again many, many thanks for this amazing journey!

We went on November after the turtle season is over and got 3 days of rain, nevertheless we were able to go on boat tours and see some of the local wildlife. The Laguna lodge where we staied is a nice place to stay, if you are not expecting luxury. Food was very good. Our guide Sebastian was a fantastic help and all the boat skipers were extremely helpfull in spoting animals and birds. The visit to Tortuguero "tipical" village is not necessary, only if you are realy into touristic souvenirs.

Such an incredibly beautiful river. We did the 1 day tour, starting at 7:30 with a 1 hour drive to where we put in, approximately 4 hours on the river , a stop for lunch and then 1.5 hours drive back to Turrialba. Our guide was Charlo (may be misspelled) and Roberto was in the kayak as safety and photographer. Water was low but we still had loads of fun. Charlo kept us entertained throughout and made sure that we didn’t stay too dry. Lunch was incredible with tortilla and many assorted fillings including local Turrialba cheese. The scenery was breathtaking with many different birds, trees, and passing by indigenous areas. We fully intend to return during higher water season.

This was a great opportunity to get a closer look at some of the regions animals and the efforts that are underway to both rescue and sustain them. The center is run by volunteers from around the world, has an animal hospital on site, and a small cadre of 'resident' animals that can't be returned to the wild. We were treated to up close time with sloths, mccaws, a crocodile, cervet, parrots, monkeys, peccaries, and more. As a bit of a bonus the site is in the jungle so the local wild monkeys tend to congregate around in the trees as it is a safe place for them These people are doing good work and rely on donations. They will only say it once so be generous!

If Limon, Costa Rica is a port that your cruise ship visits, you have no reason to book any other shore excursion than the one offered by Relax Day Tours. I booked their Full Day Tour to Cahuita, a few days before boarding the Emerald Princess after considering the shore excursions offered by Princess Cruise Lines. The cruise ship offerings were mostly twice the price and half the itinerary plus I would be dealing with at least 40 other cruisers and their wants and needs. Nine of us (other folks we met on the cruise ship who wanted to join my wife and me once they heard us talk about this excursion) were picked up just outside the port gates by Frederico, our tour guide and Eric the driver. These two are the owners of the business and work extremely well as a team. Frederico speaks great English and Eric can spot wildlife better than anyone I have ever met. Our trip included: a tour of the small town of Limon; a trip in the company's own private, covered boat on the local canal for sightseeing of wildlife (monkeys, sloths, birds and water fowl plus various lizards , snakes and a Cayman alligator); a stop over at a fruit stand where Frederico not only showed us many live plants and trees but explained the growing and harvesting process for bananas, pineapples, papaya, various melons, cashews and more - we also tasted samples and some of us purchased fruit to take back to the ship. Then on our way to the state park, we asked about picking up a quick lunch so they stopped by a roadside "soda" restaurant for a local Costa Rican lunch. We then arrived at Cahuita State Park where we walked the trail through the coastal forest for more wildlife and plant sightings. The trail parallels a beautiful beach and when we stopped walking, about half of our group stepped into the warm Caribbean waters. We then started driving back towards the cruise ship but not before making one last stop at the local grocery store to purchase Costa Rican coffee, at a very reasonable price, as well as some snacks for the rest of our cruise. All of us had a memorable day with Relax Day Tours. One last comment - Frederico responded to my emails almost immediately which was comforting as we kept adding people to our party.

We had an amazing experience in Tortuguero and we have Tortuguero Adventures to thank. We stayed in their guest quarters and did 4 tours over 3 days with our 7 year old son. It was an experience of a lifetime and the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Our son will surely remember it for the rest of his life.
I actually enjoyed the fact that the staff was easy going and just verbally told us what time to meet. They even arranged for us to have private breakfasts on our balcony that overlooked the river every morning. It was such a nice addition.
The staff, Isacc and Jenni were great and we felt very well taken care of. Tourism is finally returning little bu little and life has no doubt been hard for the people on this island who depend 100% on tourism to make a living. My recommendation is to be kind, smile and tip them as often as possible. If it’s not perfect, try to have an open mind.
This is one of the most unique places on earth. Just getting there is an adventure. We rented a car and parked it at La Pavona and took the public boat taxi an hour through the river channels to get to the village which drops you right on their doc. Bring cash as there is no bank and most vendors prefer cash.
We did the night walk with Elvis as our guide and even though it poured rain and we didn’t see a TON of wildlife that night, we had a blast and our son loved it. The next day we did a canoe tour with Elvis and saw so many interesting animals. Isaac took us into the National Park as well and we saw lots of animals and learned the history of conservation on this island. We ended our adventure with a turtle nesting tour which was truly an adventure. They also arranged for a private fishing boat to take us out and we loved seeing the river and the ocean converge in the area where we fished. What a great stay!
Although there seem to be some fancy resorts in the area, we would not have changed a thing and would come back in a heart beat to stay here again.

Great trip! Very informative and we saw a lot of animals (Toucans, howler monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, etc) . Nice guide who also responds to questions individually and also has a sense of humor. Clear recommendation!

Enrique was the most incredible kind and attentive guide. He was so kind to my children and answered every question they had (and there were a lot 😁) our day with him was filled with amazing and incredible sights, a wealth of information and delicious local cuisine. What a treat to spend time in such a gorgeous place and to have such a special guide like Enrique. Our driver who’s name I have forgotten was such a great driver, we felt safe all the time.
