The metro is definitely a good way to get around Shanghai where you will skip the traffic jams if you travel by car. The carriages are clean and frequency of the trains are decent. Do note that security checks are done and bags are to be screened when utilised the subway. Use the metro card available within the Alipay app for a seamless travel (QR code).

Who doesn't love travelling at high speed on a futuristic train. It's a great way to enter Shanghai from the airport. It is also a great start to modern China

A good experience. A foreigner will need their passport to enter the train station. There are no tickets issued, just a reservation done online. All you need to know is train number, date, time. When you get into train station, there is a massive sign board with Chinese and English. Once you find the gate, you will scan passport at gate and will get carriage and seat number.
All is well organised and perfectly on time.
You can board 15 minutes before train leaves

Travelled a lot on the metro and the light rail in Shanghai, found it easy to buy tickets and it's convenient travel at a very reasonable price. The light rail you get to see a little more of the sights of the city.
I would recommend it as a travel mode.

I was thrilled to see the old street, unfortunately there was not much to look at.
Riding around in Rickshaw was ok, only the the driver forcibly asked us for a tip besides the fare. He got angry at our 20Yuan tip and even called some other drivers to come to us.
..and we thought tip was supposedly voluntary...

Shanghai Airport Link Line is a new subway line start operation in Dec. 2024. It provides fast transportation between the two shanghai airport: Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA). The train runs at 160 km/hour, and it takes the subway train 40 minutes to complete the journey between PVG and SHA airport (at an affordable fare of RMB 26). The trains runs frequently from 6:00am to 22:00pm at 15 min per departure.
I took the Airport Link from PVG airport to my hotel. I observe that the Airport Link Line station is a bit far away than the standard subway station (line 2) at the airport. Once on the train, the Airport Link Line runs fast, and it only took me 28 minutes to complete the journey from PVG airport to Jinghong Road station. However, the station of the Airport Link Line is very far away from other subway station. In 3 of the stations (Shanghai International Resort, East Kangqiao, South Sanlin), it is not connected to any subway stations. In Jinghong, it took me about 12 minutes to walk from the Airport Link Line station to the subway station. So it is not a very convenient option to attempt to subway all the way to your hotel. You should probably rie the Airport Link Line to a nearby station, and then took the taxi.
