We’re a couple from the UK and big Disney fans. We’d booked holiday to China which ended in Shanghai and we decided to visit Disneyland. I tried doing a bit of research about the place which in the end didn’t prove that helpful. Firstly, downloading the app and buying the tickets online - we downloaded the app whilst in the UK. Tickets were only available/released 10 days to two weeks in advance so don’t worry if your date isn’t showing for a months time. The app was very slow whether in the UK or in China but worked much better in China on a Chinese Wi-Fi. Due to the timings we had to wait until we were in China to book the tickets on the app. I’d read things about huge queues so opted for one of the premier access (fast pass) packages. It cost us £300 for two one day park tickets with six fast passes each. The fast passes were ride specific and there are different options depending on the rides you want. You can also buy individual fast passes. I’d read about huge queues and didn’t want to rely on free fast passes that we might not get so that’s why I opted for the package. We also bought a one day PhotoPass for around £25. Once you’ve bought the tickets in the app it’ll say you’ll get a text and email confirmation for the purchase but I got neither but had took screen shots just in case. The purchase will appear on your app, go to the ‘me’ section at the bottom where you’ll have to fill in the guest names and passport numbers of the guests for each ticket. YOU MUST TAKE YOUR PASSPORTS WITH YOU. All tickets in China seem to be attached to your passports for security reasons and you won’t be let in without your passports. They will then give you a paper ticket once at the turnstile at the entrance to the park and you won’t need your passports again. The PhotoPass is a coupon on the app that you’ll need to get redeemed in the park at one of several locations, it tells you where in the app but we went to cosy corner, it’s the first shop on your right on Mickey Avenue (what would normally be Main Street USA). You’ll need to download the Disney PhotoPass app too which is where your photos will appear, the cast members will help you and show you. Regardless of whether you’ve had the pass activated, the first time you get to a photographer you’ll be given a card with a QR code on which will be scanned like your band would be in Orlando, every time they take a photo and all photos will appear on the app. You can purchase individual prints of photos at the park or you can have them digitally by buying the PhotoPass. It shows you the photo opportunities on the map of the park in the app. When we went there was no paper map, it’s all on the app. We went on Saturday 16 September which was after the school holidays. Despite it being a Saturday it wasn’t too busy. The longest queue time was 60mins for the seven dwarves mine train which we had a fast pass for. Tron had a 30 minute wait time and so we queued once for it and used the fast pass the next time. Pirates of the Caribbean had a 15 minute wait time so we queued and did that twice too. We got straight on the crystal grotto and queued half an hour for Peter Pan. We went to the Pirates of the Caribbean stunt show which isn’t in English but was still worth seeing (bear with it). Meeting characters has longer wait times for 40-60 minutes, which we didn’t bother with. Another thing to add, no commentary is in English on any of the rides. The parade does have English bits mainly due to the songs, same with the nighttime illuminations at the castle. The park in general is bigger than I thought, I thought it would be on a par with Paris but it was bigger. It has five (I think) lands to it, each has a guest services which have a board up telling you show times etc. There’s plenty of western style food, we had pizza from the Pinocchio tavern and we saw burgers in the restaurant in Tomorrowland. There’s free water fountains throughout the park and the water tastes normal (not like the matchstick flavoured water of Orlando). Disneytown is the food and shopping area (like a mini Disney Springs) and has the only Starbucks in the park (which doesn’t do anything Disney themed) but is big with indoor and outdoor seating. It is on the side of the park as if another land but you have to pass through security to get in and out of the park, the queue was minimal on the day we went. It’s hot and humid so prepare for this, my hair turned wild and my Disney themed T-shirt was stuck to me from the moment we arrived. Drink plenty of water. You can pay with credit/debit card at the bigger outlets and restaurants. I had downloaded Alipay but it only works with an internet connection. There is free Wi-Fi in the park which works nicely. Take a power bank! There are ones you can borrow for free in the park that you pay a refundable deposit for through Alipay or similar, however, you have to attach a phone number and it wouldn’t work for us. It appeared you needed a Chinese mobile number. The cast members don’t speak a lot of English but will use a translate app and are very willing to help you. Yeh toilets are very clean with plenty of western style toilets and loo roll (not a given as standard in China). It’s definitely worth a visit, we loved it. My only complaint, there weren’t any Christmas decorations for sale due to it not being Christmas.

NOt a bad experience. Lots of rides (more than Disneyland - or so it seems) Line for rides only take minutes so you can have a full day of entertainment

It was sooooooo far away for us to go from Pudong but we tried and succeeded. 1.5 hours on metro and another half hour bus ride. We also found out that we had to stop at Zuibaichi metro station Line 9 ( NOT at Songjiang Xincheng - because the bus there is no more working the route). So we stopped at Zuibaichi metro station and took Bus No. 6. Stopped at Beisong Highway at Chedunzhen. The film park is another 5 min walk to the front on your right.
Entrance fee was 80 Yuan. Huge park. Highlight for us was we managed to catch a movie shoot in progress - a fighting scene.
Park is filled with famous buildings and areas around Shanghai. Nanjing Road in the 1930s was spectacular. Good park to walk around and take lots of photos. Cafes are around for drinks n food.
It was not crowded when we were there last weekend so we liked it.

Because it's old, the crowds stay away. There is no line up for any ride and you can get around pretty quick. The tickets are cheap - 130rmb for adults and 60 for kids. But... Beware! Not all rides are included. Also, because of an accident a few weeks back, the boomerang roller coaster was still closed.

This is a nice park located in people's square. It is within walking distance from JW Marriott hotel.

Other than the fact that it is a beautiful garden tucked in the middle of the city, there is an interesting feature of this park. This is where parents will advertise the availability of their children using umbrellas. The background history and BIO data are written on paper and placed on top of an umbrella. Judging from the number of people who are walking around, they are serious about matchmaking through this means. This place is worth visiting, simply just to see this aspect.

Children’s Day visit- was totally packed, but luckily had bought tickets online so could skipped the lining (at least 1 hour they said).

You can see sharks, eels, rays, tropical fishes and educational environment for children. They have even some learning points to the young once about plastic in an ocean.

Only minus was the lack of elevators and ramps for the baby cart. Had to carry them up and down from the stairs. (good sports activity).

It’s a bit far away compared to Shanghai ocean aquarium by pearl tower in Pudong. However they are building a metro station next to the place ( ready 2020)

I decided to visit Thames Town on a Saturday. It wasn’t very busy, but still busy enough!
I had to take 3 subways & a didi to get here!

The town is very nice! It really does feel like I’ve stepped back into the UK! Lovely little town to just walk around and escape Shanghai!

I wasn’t able to find any cafes or restaurants that sold British foods (fish & chips) unfortunately! There is a Starbucks and a corner shop!

I found a cute little cafe called The Elephant House (just round the corner from Starbucks) which I recommend. The owner speaks perfect English! The food is delicious (western food)!

The lady in the tourist information didn’t speak any English! Although they had a map in English!

Walking around during the Chinese New year can be quite challenging so make sure you have plenty of time and water. It was a peaceful and happy day riding a boat with family on the lake!

This is a great place to refresh on a summer day with your kids. The attractions range from baby pools and water games to massive wave pool and fast slides for adults. The river is my favourite ride although parts of it are a bit scary for smaller children.
As for the complains in some of the previous posts:
    - yes, the park is a bit expensive and a bit crowder, but just avoid weekends and you'll have plenty of space to have some great fun. After all, most places in Shanghai are crowded on weekends.
    - yes, the food in there is nothing special. But you're going for the slides and the waves, not for the restaurants. Bring your own food if you're picky.
    - the complaint about the swimming shorts sounds ridiculous to me. It is the typical foreign guy who thinks he can bend the rules just because he is a laowai. Rules are rules, my friend, same for everyone, no matter where you come from. Those guys are just doing their job.

Great photo op when walking past at night. Conveniently located next to a foot bridge. Not sure what’s inside.

First time visiting the park with low expectation.

Quite a surprise to find lot of activities suitable for kids but some of the amusement have to wait for at least 45-minutes, this is event when the park only about 20% fill what makes it worst is the air circulation in the waiting area make things not comfortable.

The center piece attraction is the Dolphin show. Quite tricky with the pricing as there is an added fee of RMB 90 person if you want to jump the queue.

    Overall is good for kids.

4 of us went to universal studio parks at 8 am I first ride we were in line for 1 hour 45 minutes. We only got to get on 4 rides in an 8 hour day! Most of our day we were in lines not a good cost value in my opinion. The ticket was over 200 dollars per person. And FYI no military discount if you only buy a one day ticket I don’t understand that.

We visited Legoland Discovery Centre on Sunday afternoon, expecting to spend a few hours here. Tickets can be bought online via their wechat (170 RMB) or at the door (200 RMB) - they do not offer family tickets or discounted tickets for children, so a trip for two adults and one child came up to 600 RMB. For what it was, we thought it was a little over priced, or at least they should offer discounted tickets for families and children.

The centre itself is on the second floor of a mall called Parkside Plaza (nearest metro is Changfeng Rd line 13), and it is opposite a large park and aquarium. You can buy tickets for both the aquarium and Lego discovery to save money on tickets. The centre is very small but the Lego theme is consistent and well put together. There are three main attractions - a laser shooting game, a ride and a 4D cinema (with regular shows throughout the day).

All attractions were cute and my sister had a lot of fun riding them, there were also two indoor playgrounds, a Lego friends area and an area in which kids can build their own cars and test them out on tracks (lots of fun). There is also a cafe with a wide range of imported and local snacks and drinks.

Overall, our visit was quite sweet but much shorter than intended (we were only there for a couple of hours). We hope in the future they’ll be able to add more activities and add family friendly tickets!
