Great place to study the history of Shanghai and China through a lot of artifacts.

- SharadJaipur, India291 contributionsThis place gives you a glimpse of the city of Shanghai, how it was planned, constructed and how it was developed. Its importance in terms of minerals, business, etc. It has a huge model of the city. Also, it gives you a virtual tour of the city by 9 cameras explaining the highlights in animation format.Written February 4, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Pioneer24959839917Tel Aviv, Israel5 contributionsAn interesting and enlightening exhibition that tells the little-known story of the tens of thousands of Jewish refugees who fled Germany and Austria on the eve of World War II and found refuge in Shanghai.
The exhibition describes, through many photos and authentic items, the background to this event and especially the life of the refugee community in terms of physical survival, daily life, cultural life, and more. Highly recommended!Written January 25, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was fascinated by the space science. English description was given and it almost took 4 hours to fully see the whole museum. The museum was worth every single minute. If you're interested in science i highly recommend it. It'll be worth your time.Written January 5, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - payam-atrTehran, Iran437 contributionsThe variety of contemporary art, such as paintings and sculptures, and the original structure and building of the museum are very attractive and should definitely be visited on a trip to this city.Written December 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KaijaShanghai, China141 contributionsI wasn’t expecting much from the World Expo Museum, as it’s not typically highlighted among Shanghai’s must-see attractions, but I was pleasantly surprised. The museum features two temporary exhibition spaces, including a modern exhibition and a William Morris exhibit, which I found particularly impressive.
The museum also houses 8 halls dedicated to the history of the World Expo, and they are done extremely well. What stood out to me was the focus on the lasting impact of Expo builds. While there’s often a lot of talk about the cost and new infrastructure required for the Olympic Games, the Expo’s constructions are often overlooked. These structures are much more substantial, and many of them continue to shape the landscapes of the host cities. There are city maps on display showing the new architecture built for each host city over the years.
Another fascinating section highlights the technological innovations introduced at the Expo, such as the typewriter, automated milking systems, and the modern classroom. There’s so much to see that by the end, it can be a bit overwhelming. Overall, the exhibition was thoughtfully curated and very well done.Written February 25, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My partner was happy with the diversity of cars; we visited the Beijing Auto Museum in October and thought there was more diversity in cars at Shanghai but less in numbers / exhibits. Equally as interesting to visit though! The museum is part of some kind of transport district so it was cool to see some autonomous vehicle testing and other interesting EV information too. It was about a 50-minute drive out of where we were staying near the Yu Garden but if you have the time, it's a cool museum!Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Each floor was a separate little exhibition focused on figurines, jade, blue and white porcelain, and Buddhist figures respectively. The artefacts were well selected and nicely presented, and the accompanying text information was informative without being too long. You could probably have gone through the whole thing in an hour if you wanted, but we took our time and managed to spend a good 4 hours in there.
The staff were all very polite and friendly too. The cafe on the 5th floor had a beautiful view and good coffee (though we had hoped for a bite of lunch they only had cake and smoothies). The place was also not particularly crowded despite it being Golden Week which was a pleasant surprise.

Starbucks here is truly quaint as it is every inch, French. The paths are nice and the ambience reminds us of the cultural strands that shaped Shanghai to what it is today.
Snap a selfie in its lush gardens. Take delight in the vines that smolder the walls of some structures. The trees along the roads also make this charming community a haven for nature-lovers.
The restaurants, though, are above mid in terms of pricing. Dishes and drinks are way too expensive so, have a full meal before heading there.Written July 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris PShanghai, China6,025 contributionsThe Glass Museum is far out and a bit out of the way, so it takes an effort to get there. It’s a long walk from the Nearest Metro. The displays are awesome, although I left feeling that somehow there should have been more - especially older items, seeing that it is a museum. What was on display, was excellent. It’s covers quite a large area , so you need an hour or two to see everything. Some of the descriptions on the glass panels/cases are really difficult to read, with dark backgrounds, although I was pleasantly surprised to see so much written in English.
I may need to go back on a week end, when hopefully there will be some artisans at work and workshops open. It all looks very interesting. Note that it’s half price, Tuesday to Friday.Written November 27, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
