- Sergey ANizhny Novgorod, Russia43 contributionsWe visited the museum on 2024-06-10. Our mistake was to not book a visit in advance through the museum's website, because it was an extended weekend due to Dragon Boat Festival and Shanghai was overcrowded with tourists. The plate at the entrance mentioned "a fully booked day". However, after waiting for 20 minutes at the ticket office and explaining to the staff that we were visiting Shanghai for 1 day only, our group of 5 persons received a pass. Entrance is free and this is amazing taking into account the museum interior and exhibitions, which undoubtedly require good funding. So we spent about two hours here and for me this wasn't enough, though a couple of exhibitions was closed. Personally, I found the section dedicated to Chinese painting art and calligraphy most amazing because my previous knowledge of it had been almost zero. There are items which are almost 1000 years old and this was very impressive. I hope to come back here with my family some day.Written June 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Alessio0575Monza, Italy187 contributionsThis is a unique place for history lovers, a small museum displaying a vast collection of propaganda posters dating back since the creation of the Chinese state. The posters somehow cover all main moments of the Chinese history since 1949. It is also possible to buy copies and some original old postcards already with frames.
some insturctions to find the Museum: Get out at Jiangsu Road Metro station.
Walk down the road to the junction of Jiangsu Road and Yan‘an Viad. There is a big building (Huamin Empire Plaza) which you enter at section 726. its located on the 7th floor.Written August 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Shanghai is so big and impossible to comprehend how big the city is until you see the models on the whole floor.Written August 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsWe came to M50 on the weekend and it was not too busy. There are lots of exhibits you can walk in for free and see artists at work. The area also has many cafes and a few restaurants but none were overly appealing.Written April 3, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - autumnjune729Singapore, Singapore234 contributionsExterior of building is an iconic photo spot. Entry to museum is free, exhibits inside not very impressive but the gem of the museum is the 3D motion art of the famous Chinese painting 清明上河图。 Enjoyed this part tremendously but the rest of the museum is quite passable.Written October 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jonathan TSingapore, Singapore19 contributionsI honesty did not know anything about world expos, let alone the Shanghai World Expo. The museum however was very aesthetic and I had a pleasant time learning about the history of world expos, how the expo areas were constructed and designed as well as the significance of the event. About 1/3 of the museum is dedicated to Shanghai World Expo. However it is pretty easy to cover most of the museum in an hour or two. I would recommend dropping by the newly opened Table Tennis Museum that is a stone's throw away and can be covered under an hour. PLUS both museum visits are FREE!Written December 4, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Emilee RipponPerth, Australia11 contributionsSome very cool cars here! My partner was happy with the diversity of cars; we visited the Beijing Auto Museum in October and thought there was more diversity in cars at Shanghai but less in numbers / exhibits. Equally as interesting to visit though! The museum is part of some kind of transport district so it was cool to see some autonomous vehicle testing and other interesting EV information too. It was about a 50-minute drive out of where we were staying near the Yu Garden but if you have the time, it's a cool museum!Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nicely made characters.
If you have a lot of customers, it can take time to tour the exhibition.Written March 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Probably because it is ticketed. You get the same enjoyment you get as in Western museums.
The quality of artifacts is very high here. The only downside is that it is a small collection. But still will be enough to occupy 1-2 hours.
There's a good cafe on the 5th floor with sweeping views of the bund. Worth stopping for a coffee, just for the view.
No need to book tickets in advance, just turn up. No need to bring passport or ID.Written August 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can wander through the many galleries, buy some art at reasonable prices, or shop for jewelry or art supplies. There are several cafes and a restaurant as well. If you are interested in contemporary Chinese art, you should definitely visit.Written September 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
