What travelers are saying
- Kay Q6 contributionsFriendly, helpful staff! Center was well organized with info separated by categories: outdoor activities, restaurants, etc. Made it easy to find exactly what we were looking for. Thank you!Written February 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- swearengenColonia, NJ850 contributionsStopped by one day to look around, pop into some shops, and take a walk by the marina. There are lots of shops with some restaurants, and a number of places to grab a drink. A few places with outdoor seating by the water which is nice. It was pretty busy, but parking wasn't bad.Written May 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tansy2015Brighton, MI333 contributionsThe name is a tad deceiving or backcountry means something different in the south. Mostly paved but a lot of side trails that aren’t paved to explore. We saw the resident alligator and a black snake enjoying his lunch. The paved trail goes for 28 miles, so a bike is also a great option, especially that you can use them for free for 3 hours. Great way to see lots of park!Written March 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Melissa JPerryville, MO9 contributionsPretty clean and seemed reasonable cost for the games. Not too many kids running around crazy, mini golf was fun! Took a long time, so made it feel worth it. Go karts were cool too!Written April 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tansy2015Brighton, MI333 contributionsMarch is hit and miss for warm weather. We missed it, only in the 50,s the week we were here. But the sun is very warm and if you put your back to a dune and get out of the wind it’s really warm. The water temperature was warmer than the air so you could swim and be warm as the air was frigid.Written March 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tansy2015Brighton, MI333 contributionsA popular beach and rightly so. The state maintains nicely, but trash is everywhere. We always bring a bag and try to do our part even though we aren’t the ones making the mess. It was very windy and red flags were up, but you could still collect some nice shells and wade in the water.Written March 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Christina KNew Baltimore, VA73 contributionsThis interesting little museum offers information on local history, Native American artifacts, antique sea-faring items and biological findings. The lone guide is friendly and informative and greets visitors with the history of the building which was once a one-room school house among other things. I found the 500 year old nineteen foot long dug-out canoe as well as the dolphin scull particularly interesting. My daughter took home some shards of Native American pottery which was free. Worth stopping by if you are in the area. Admission was free.Written February 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tansy2015Brighton, MI333 contributionsWhat a great building with live rescued raptors and owls "under" the building and exhibits with a roaming cat and tortoise to pet and visit. Lots of displays of live snakes, lizards, turtles and baby alligators in a pool. The grounds host 28 miles of paved trail, and many more sandy hikes. A must if your into nature or just learning about the area.Written March 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carl G3 contributionsBeautiful Catholic church, right off the beach. Great for Snowbirds or vacationers. Check out their website.Written February 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Venture7746072 contributionsThe beach and town were very nice. Still plenty to do but not extremely crowded. We were very happy with our trip but probably wouldn't stay at Phoenix properties again because no one said anything about all the floats in the pool or the extremely loud music at the pool.Written September 9, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cliff TNoblesville, IN1,000 contributionsGood facilities for playing and watching baseball, softball and soccer. - Teri TPeachtree City, GA158 contributionsWe spent a few hours here before the rain moved in. There is a pay station in the parking lot, parking is not free. It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the shore to set up. It is family friendly and clean. We really enjoyed our time here.Written July 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Hello,
I was vacation plans surfing and stumbled onto Orange Beach Al. Never heard of this resort beach town!!. (I love it when I stumbled on to new places) So far from what I have seen on different websites it looks like a fun beach town.
Question - Is it anything like Myrtle beach in terms of things to do? Myrtle beach is filled with many activities, entertainment, restaurants and nice resort hotels, but we are looking for a new beach town to explore, but not boring or laid back. We are a 55+ couple who although our party days are behind us, we still like fun things to do, night time entertainment and of course good places to eat. This may be an ideal place for our 25th wedding anniversary next year! or maybe even this year!
Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Answer: I would agree with the rest of the posters that OB and MB are quite different. As Dave mentioned in post 1 you have to look at Orange Beach and Gulf Shores as one community from a beach vacation standpoint. There are excellent restaurants with fantastic seafood selections, some of which can only be found in or close to our area like royal red shrimp, fresh cobia(if in season), stone crabs and other fresh catches that wouldn't be popular on the Atlantic coast. There are an abundance of watersports as mentioned and lots of forts and natural areas. There are at least four state parks in the immediate area and several more if you include the Mobile and Pensacola regions. There is a national seashore on our island and multiple access points between Perdido Key and Pensacola. Also as mentioned we have lots of Civil War History. There are six forts in the area which can be toured along with the remains of a few others and Blakely Battlefield in Spanish Fort. There are miles of trails to be explored. Gulf SP in GS is particularly popular, not just for the beach and pier but also for the miles of back-country trail. In addition to Gulf Islands National Seashore there is Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge which has kayak and hiking trails. Most people come to our area for the beach. The sand is better, the water is clearer and calmer than the Atlantic and the fishing is some of the best in the country. If you play golf we have extensive championship golf courses including two Robert Trent Jones courses nearby. There are resorts, condos, beach houses, duplexes, cabins and hotels. just take your pick as for accommodation. They run the gambit from cheap to ultra-luxurious and highly upscale. Nearly everywhere has a pool though. As for nightlife the Flora-Bama is the premier destination and has live music every day of the year. During summer most bars and some restaurants will have entertainment. The Hangout and Lulu's are very popular. The Hangout and the Pink Pony Pub are both beachside. Cobalt has a nice bar overlooking the bay. The Gulf is very popular and is located on Perdido Pass. Live Bait has dancing. There are a number of bars at the Wharf that run the gambit from Cigar Bar to country.
