A must see when in Jaipur!

    Top tips:
    1) If you get a taxi, ask them to drop you off at the top of the hill, right by the entrance. We managed to get taken to the top by taxi so we could avoid having to either walk up the hill, ride an elephant or hire a jeep at extra expense. If you use Uber, the address is “Devisinghpura, Amer, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302028, India” rather than “Amber Palace”, as that location is at the bottom of the hill, by the main parking lot, jeeps for hire and elephant rides.
    2) After you’ve bought your tickets, there are pay toilets on the right of the step leading to the entrance. Once you’ve entered, the toilets are at the end of your visit and these are also pay toilets. If you need the bathroom, I’d suggest using it before you enter. We used the pay toilets at the end of the visit. There wasn’t a set price, you can give what you feel you want to. Google maps didn’t show the location of the toilets but they are next to the cafe… there wasn’t any directional signage but they are there!

Jantar Mantar is an exceptional place to explore and learn about ancient astronomical instruments and the science behind timekeeping, celestial observation, and planetary motion. Its remarkable precision and architectural brilliance make it a must-visit for anyone interested in history, astronomy, and science.

A great place to see Islamic architecture and painting design. The Royal Family of Jaipur still lives here. And if you wish a more intimate look into the palace’s past and present, you can rent the Gudliya Suite through Airbnb. It includes a lounge, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, private indoor swimming pool, and personal butler. Your expenditure will benefit a good cause as the proceeds from each stay are donated to the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation that supports rural women and artisans in Rajasthan.

Jaipur's Sheesh Mahal has stood testament to the changing time and evolving cityscape that is today a reflection of the beauty and grandeur of the royals of Rajasthan. Mirror-work has long played a significant role in all types of decor, and Rajasthan takes the credit for introducing the world to novel ways of utilising mirrors.

We visited this elephant sanctuary while on a tour of the Golden Triangle with Perfect Agra Tours. This was not included in our original itinerary but the owner of the company added it on at our request. It was a dream come true to visit and spend time with elephants. It is clear that the elephants are well cared for. Elefanjoy gave us a time slot and we had "our" elephant, Lakshi, for a certain amount of time during which we spent time petting and hugging her, feeding her, painting on her (with non-toxic paints), etc. She was very gentle and seemed happy to interact with us. There were also options for walking with the elephants but due to the short time frame we were on, we could not stay long. The elephant handlers/carers are very devoted to these gentle giants - one had been working there since childhood and it is clear that they have a special relationship with them. It was a wonderful experience!

Translated it means “Water Palace”, but originally built 225 years ago as a hunting lodge for royalty in stunning pink and red sandstone. The palace's outstanding symmetry when viewed from the banks of the Man Sagar Lake appears to be on only 1 floor. In fact, there are 4 floor underneath that have been preserved due to the remarkable technology, innovative design and unique lime mortar used to prevent seepage back then. The lake is very serene, and I saw many species of birds flying around. Apparently at one time, 150 different bird species made this a stop on their migration paths. Unfortunately, it was closed due to some maintenance issues, so my only view was from the riverbanks...

The temple is one the most beautiful temples in Jaipur city. The temple is dedicated to the deities Lakshmi and Narayana, the divine powers in hindu religion. The environment of the temple is peaceful and serene and is quite suitable for people to visit anytime safely. The architecture is magnificent and is made mostly of white marbel, which shows traditional elements and tranquility. The temple is constructed on a particular height to provide visiters with great views from the temple. The sunets and sunrises from the temple look stunning.

Wonderful history . Worth reading up on before. Be prepared for the cold if it is a winter day . Even if the city is sunny . Beautiful for photos is it’s a clear day . But even in the mist . Great photo opportunity.

Mukesh Art Gallery is a must-see on your Jaipur trip. We were pleasantly surprised and awed by the huge collection of paintings, sculptures, and mixed media and many more. The owner, Mr. Rohit gave a tour of the place and was very patient in explaining many art pieces they have. He is doing a very good job on taking his father’s passion to the next level! Congratulations on being featured in the Architectural digest! All the best!!

we decided to use an uber (booked for whole day, it was 4 times cheaper than the car our hotel was arranging). You will need a sturdy vehicle that can climb up the Aravalli hills to reach the fort. The view of Jaipur from up the fort is magnificent. Nahargarh Fort sits proudly on a ridge of the Aravalli Hills, creating an impressive northern backdrop to the city of Jaipur. It was constructed during the reign of Jai Singh in 1734, and was later expanded in 1868. Nahargarh, which means abode of tigers, was a formidable barrier, defending Jaipur against attacking enemies. Within its walls, the fort houses Madhavendra Bhawan, the summer destination for the members of the royal family. Built by Sawai Madho Singh, the palace has 12 matching boudoirs for the queens, at the head of which is a suite for the king. They are all connected by corridors decorated with delicate murals. Even today the palace is a favoured spot for local picnickers. The fort looks brilliant when floodlit at night. Overlooking the city, it presents a glittering view of the city lights.

We had a spare hour or so and decided to head to Monkey Temple. There were some poor reviews so we were concerned but we really enjoyed our visit. It's an intriguing place. We were blessed by a monk in a small ritual, albeit he did ask for a 'donation', but since there is no entry fee, we didn't mind at all.

The monkeys were not aggressive, and there were not too many hawkers. It is somewhat dilapidated, but that shouldn't put you off. It's worth a trip if you have time.

I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to because of what we just experienced on our half day private tour with Aftab and his team. First of all, Aftab is an incredible guide and person. His passion and enthusiasm for elephants is outstanding. He taught us so much about the elephants and the way they care for them at this facility. They always have a caretaker with the elephant, 24 hours a day. We visited with our 5 year old kid and got to feed, walk, and colour the elephants. Highly recommended for family with kids. I will definitely tell all of my friends.

Really enjoyed the museum, full of interesting artefacts and history from the area, set over 2 floors in a historical building a must see when visiting Jaipur.

Only a few days earlier visited Indian museum in Kolkata and this museum in Jaipur is so much better.

If like me you hate being hassled by shop-owners and are not keen on bargaining, just stick with the handful of shops that have fixed prices (there's one at 142 Johari Bazar) or where they don't pressure you to buy (my experience at 105, Tripolia Bazar). We ended up having fun and buying some really nice stuff at very reasonable prices.
