    Best birding in New Delhi
    What a perfectly peaceful place to walk in nature while surrounded by the large city. Many, many birds to find plus cool morning air. For the nature lovers, I highly recommend. Be sure to walk up to the top of the wall for a panoramic view of the city.

    A hidden treasure
    Tucked away between Sainik Farms and Said-ul-Ajaib is the beautifully wild and unspoilt Tilpath Valley Biodiversity Park. Spread out over 172 acres, the park was inaugurated only in 2018, and because it’s so little-known still, it’s quite unspoilt. This is part of the South Delhi Ridge, and most of the trees here are typical Delhi Ridge vegetation: acacias, ber, lots of thorny bushes, and grasses. There is a fair bit of wildlife – there have even been leopard sightings in the park.

    No entry fees are charged. The park is open in the morning (around 6 AM – 9 AM) and then again in the afternoon (4 PM – 7 PM in the summer, 3 PM – 6 PM in the winter). While you can opt for a guard to take you around, it’s not really necessary, and they don’t insist on it, especially since the wide trail is easy to follow: it’s a 3 km long trail which loops right round the park and brings you back to the main gate of the park.

    The walk is very scenic, and we were lucky to see not just plenty of birds and butterflies but also a neelgai. Wear good walking shoes because the path is quite rocky in places. Note that this park is quite rugged and wild, so there are no benches, drinking water, etc. Bring your own bottled water.
