Returning back to the warmth of this two centuries-old heritage icon of a perfumery was heartwarming to the core! I was welcomed by the affable and affectionate seventh generation perfumer Mr. Mukul Gundhi and his highly talented son Vinamra for an afternoon of attar nosing.
One of this perfumery's oldest classics is the deep, dark, viscous Madan Mast Attar embellished with a rich, deep labdanum and oakmoss combination complimented by a creamy Damascus Rose and black musk for massive projection. I instantly fell in love with this attar. Madan Mast is a fragrance I highly recommend for lovers of oriental fragrance! Plus, it cost me just Rs. 200 for 10 ml!
Another rich and deep attar that I bought, and recommend for oud lovers like myself is Sahara Oud with subtle floral, musky and oud facets enhanced by a dark and enigmatic labdanum. For the lighter, fresher fragrances, an Arabesque Al Aziz, a citrus-aquatic Jabali and a uniquely formulated take on Patchouli-Patchouli Premium truly enchanted me. I couldn't help but include them in my attar collection.
For an authentic musk experience, Ambergris Fir is a thick, viscous fragrance for daredevils! An outright animalic take on the mysterious aroma of pure musk, this blend mesmerized me wearer with its massive projection, longevity and overall performance.
I also bought some of Gulab Singh Johrimal's agarbatti incenses. Black Ood agarbatti offered a fantastic experience true to its name, projecting accords of burning oud chips and a subtle aroma of Indian oud. I paid Rs. 210 for a cylindrical packet of 100 sticks. I was particularly fascinated by Oriental agarbatti for its strong, spicy-floral aromas that I found perfectly suitable for large spaces. For the softer floral agarbattis, I chose Tuberose, Hibiscus, Tulip, Kesar-Chandan and Rose.
Mr.Gundhi presented to me, a collection of Krishna Sticks comprising of Musk, Sandal and Rose each costing Rs. 250. These are long-lasting agarbattis with soft and soothing aromas permeating the space. Among them, the Musk agarbatti projected enigmatic, deep, dark aromas of musk and musk ambrette. While the Sandal agarbatti offered an authentic Mysore sandalwood experience with smoky, creamy, woody and spicy aromas, the Rose agarbatti with its touch of Indian oud in the background, turned out to be an absolute classic.
Last but not least, I completed my agarbatti incense selection with a tranquil Musk Rose agarbatti which I find deeply meditative and healing!
Gulab Singh Johrimal's extremely reasonable pricing, exceptional quality, impeccable customer service and mind-boggling variety and versatility truly impressed me.
