An hour and a half drive from Bangkok, we did on afternoon tour of this UNESCO Heritage listed city, built by the King of Siam in 1350 as the capital and destroyed by the Burmese in the mid 18th century. The capital then moved to Bangkok
Our driver took us to several different areas, where we could walk around the ruins of crumbling towers and wats, and the Buddhist monasteries.
It was fascinating to explore and learn about the important history of this ancient city

This trip was booked through Expedia from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. It was worth it to see the temples on the other side of the country. Great historical site, lots of things to learn. Very informative

Beautiful historical landmark. I booked this tour through Expedia from Bangkok. Great tour guide. They provided water and paid for the entrance fees. Great to learn about the country's history

Our visit to Wat Phra Si Sanphet was part of a Klook tour, and it turned out to be the temple that truly took my breath away among all the ones we saw in Ayutthaya. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning example of Thailand's rich historical and cultural heritage.

Even though the temple is now only ruins, it’s impossible not to imagine what it looked like in its prime. The grandeur of the remaining structures speaks volumes about its past splendor. The three large stupas (chedis) are particularly impressive and offer a glimpse into the architectural prowess of ancient Ayutthaya.

It was incredibly hot when we visited, but honestly, I didn’t care. I was too captivated by the site and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to take lots of pictures. The ruins are extensive, and there’s so much to see and explore.

Thankfully, they provide umbrellas that you can borrow, which was a big help in the scorching sun. After touring the site, make sure to buy the fresh juice sold outside. What amazed me was that the prices weren’t jacked up to take advantage of tourists. The juice was refreshing and reasonably priced, which was a pleasant surprise.

You might also come across elephants outside the temple. However, I didn’t like that they were exploited for tourism, and I hope this practice stops.

In summary, Wat Phra Si Sanphet is a must-visit when in Ayutthaya. Despite the heat, the historical significance and beauty of the ruins make it an unforgettable experience. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures and enjoy the fresh juice to cool down afterward!

Nice temple to visit. It was part of the tour I booked through Expedia. This one isn't in Ayutthaya if I remember correctly, it's on the other side of the city

What an honor it is to be able to review our FOURTH visit to Elephantstay!!!My husband and I have been visiting Elephantstay since 2017 and have brought our children on the last two trips. We initially came for the elephants, but we continue to return for the community, culture, and compassion of everyone who lives and works in the village. When you're at the Kraal, you truly belong, and there is nothing else like it.

Each visit, we have been blessed with the opportunity to learn about the culture, Asian elephants, and to have a hands-on experience of getting to know the elephants in a very real way. This past trip exceeded our wildest imaginations because we were fortunate to witness the birth of twins! At 9:05PM on a Friday evening, Lexi came to our rooms to inform us that a baby had been born. We arrived just in time to see Jumjuree give birth to the second elephant about 10 minutes later. Celebrating the miraculous birth of the twins was an unforgettable experience, and we still can't believe how incredibly lucky we were to be there. Over the next few days, we celebrated not only with the village but also with the greater community, as many people came to make merit and pray for blessings for the twins.

Words cannot fully express the sense of community we felt during our visit. Elephantstay is truly a place where you can find a sense of belonging when you immerse yourself in the environment. Michelle, Ewa, and Lexi work incredibly hard to give all their guests a truly personal experience. The mahouts and the rest of the elephant staff are so friendly and inclusive that it is easy to forget that most of us don't speak the same language. Bonds are formed through laughter, washing produce together, playing with the children, and caring for the elephants. Words are not needed where camaraderie exists.

Thank you all so much for an absolutely amazing two weeks! You have given us such a gift, and we can't wait to come back and see you all again soon!

19 m high Buddha is the most impressive structure in this whole city dedicated to him. Most popular with chinese pilgrims. You can also buy food to feed the fishes in the nearby river as many locals were doing.

What makes this temple unique is that most relics found in Ayutthaya were from it's crypt. The sword of Victory, miniature royal elephant, golden crowns, golden embroided pieces of cloth. Makes you feel special when you are taking a walk among the ruins.
