- S6TwoBeersSheffield, UK150 contributionsWhat an experience millions of tiny bats pouring out of the cave that apparently goes on for 1 hour for them all to leave to go to the rice fields. You have to be patient the bats leave at their time we waited 1hr 6.40pm they emerged. Lots of seating and tables plenty of food and drink stalls, plus quite a few monkeys waiting to pinch your food.Written February 18, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - b2runOntario, Canada285 contributions358 steps to get up to the top and a couple of steep sections. The steps aren't in great shape. At the top, there is a pretty good view although the trees don't offer you a clear panorama. These are ruins, not restored. Not comparable to Angkor Wat but then, we were the only ones there so it was very peaceful. Five temples.Written February 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Louise C13 contributionsThis is a great place to spend an hour or more in Battambang. There are three floors of artwork and all of which are super talented and by local artists. There is a lovely cafe at the top with great views of the pagoda and the best coffee I had in the cityWritten March 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - places2seeplaces2goEngland, UK7,018 contributionsVisited here as part of an organised Tuk Tuk day tour.
Tuk Tuk dropped us at bottom, then our guide arranged for a 4x4 to drive us as near to the top as possible.
The views from here are outstanding.
Temples & statues interesting.
Again as with many other temples these were used by Khmer Rouge during the genocide.
Our guide also explained & showed us the caves that were used to slaughter people as well as children & babies. Shocking stuff.
Today the temple is back in use by the monks & we saw a blessing whilst there.
Worth a visit.Written January 19, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - GadAboutThePlanetLondon, UK92 contributionsWould i do it again? Perhaps not. Am i glad i did it? Absolutely.
So, there you have it. It's not straight forward. We were not on a boat that looks like the first pic here so i suggest you scroll through as i think many aren't. Ours was much smaller, had two benches either side which everyone sat on, facing each other. Cramped and one tiny toilet right by the very very very well used engine.
It WAS, however, an incredible experience. We tend to stay in homestays or small hotels/guesthouses, we travel overland where we can, we eat street food over restaurants (always local food) etc. So, if you're not that type, then perhaps this isn't for you. There were no life jackets or any safety of any kind (but this is SE Asia). That's fine once you clear the lake but there is a couple of hours on the lake where you see noone else and one can feel vulnerable (we did for a bit). But then you meet other travellers and have a laugh, you see the most wonderful floating villages up close and personal (we had to stop several times to fix the engine after running aground before hitting the lake proper) and it takes forever, as others suggest. We brought supplies. You should bring supplies as there is just one stop where you can buy food and this can take hours to get to. Bring toilet paper too, of course.
The photo opportunities are amazing (homes, villages, birds and people). You can climb up onto the roof, which we did early in the journey after leaving the main lake, and chill there for hours, which we did (it's super hot but there's a breeze). Bring suncream of course as there's absolutely no shade up there.
Also worth noting that there were people of most ages (older couples, families etc - no young kids though) and people generally seemed to enjoy it. Our was around 8-9 hours in total.
Finally, the destination in Battambang (as of Jan 2020) is some way out of town (five mins by tuk tuk) but you must expect to be dropped off on the riverbank and be crowded immediately with tuk tuk drivers with whom you must negotiate (unless you'd pre booked a hotel transfer). Not a problem though and it's cheap in the scheme of things. Don't bother haggling too hard or you'll be left there!
So, just be prepared for a wee bit of discomfort but you will be rewarded with plenty of stories to tell, lots of smiles and some great memories.Written May 24, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's as old as Angkor Wat, but not as well preserved although there is work going on to restore parts of the building.Written January 7, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - places2seeplaces2goEngland, UK7,018 contributionsWe were staying in the village at
Maisons Wot Kor so felt right to take a tour of this ancient house.
We were met by the nephew who showed us around the house. He explained the history of the house & also how they are trying to preserve the house together with the history of Khmer life.
They have a small selection of items to buy. We were happy to buy something & give a donation for our tour.Written January 24, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TheLush101Cardiff, UK2,580 contributionsWorth a quick stop if you're passing by. It's right in the middle of a roundabout but is fairly easy to cross over to. Day and night people are leaving gifts etc. at the foot of the statue as the traffic passes by.Written May 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - places2seeplaces2goEngland, UK7,018 contributionsVisited here as part of an arranged day tour of Battambang.
Our guide started by showing us around the colourful temple.
We then entered the Khmer Rouge exhibition. Although we had already seen the killing fields & prison in Phnom Penh this one really showed & explained things well from what happened in Battambang & how this Temple was used as a prison during the Khmer Rouge’s genocide.
There is a memorial too which is worth taking a look at.
For obvious reasons no photos of the exhibition or memorial.Written January 19, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
