I just came back from 5 days in Rio and reviewed the highlights of my vacation there. #1 without doubt was our (wife and two friends) Saturday night visit to this samba club. Frankly the experience is impossible to describe adequately in words. I've never been anything like it. Thousands of people dancing non-stop to mind-numbing samba music hour after hour after hour. You don't have to be a dancer to enjoy this. You'll never forget it.

Warning! The building is in the shanty-town neighbourhood of Mangueira and can be quite unnerving when you get there. Don't be put off. We had no problems. The per person ticket price was 40 Reals, with another 60 Reals for a table if you really want one. It's about 15 minute walk from the Maracanã subway station through some 'scary' streets. Best way is to take Uber directly form your hotel.

A really beautifull 1900s building with wooden floors and a an amazing lift that you can ride and get back in time, despite the building itself is worth going to enjoy the exibitions that they host.

Go to the second floor to see the chambers of the old Supreme Court. Beautiful in their own right, but off to the side there's an exhibit with videos on the periods of judicial change throughout the country's history. An interesting and timely education.

Participated in an international event called "PORTUGAL 360º", and the experience was very good.
Good organization, great music shows, and the space is very nice.

The spacious and monumental Casa Franca-Brasil is a former custom's house repurposed as a modern art exhibition space. You can just walk in to take a look, there is no entrance fee. The exhibits in January 2019 certainly were thought provoking. Overall certainly worth a visit on walk through the old centre of Rio.

It's an open air warehouse, make no mistake about that. You walk around and look through the bars to see the floats that are stored there. I thought it was well-worth it to go and see them. You spend 30 min. there and move on. I've heard they have some Samba events there but we weren't there on that day. We had hired a driver the entire time we were in Rio and he took us there (highly recommend you do the same for security and a good local tour guide. Plus it's fairly inexpensive). They had a huge fire here in 2011 that destroyed almost everything so some of the reviews might reflect the lack of floats that were there. They needed to have a couple more parades to have something to put in there to see.

Beautiful and traditional spot to enjoy awesome Brazilian music live. Check the concert schedule, surely you'll find a lot of interesting shows coming. It's near to the center of the city, easy access and there is lots of food around.
