Great walking around the lake on good pavement. Also nice streets and houses in the nabourhood. Pleasent weather in August, 28 deg. C. Speaking Portuguese is an advantages, since very few speak English in Belo Horizonte.

Walking there is very nice... an oasis in the cit center. It has 2 theathers... one inside (Francisco Nunes) and the other (Palácio das Artes) has the entrance outside, in Afonso Pena avenue.

You may walk or ride your bike around the lake, try one of the several bars and restaurants available. There are good hotels if you decide to spend the night. I like to spend a weekend there every now and then.

It's only opened during the weekend and the entrance is R5 on Saturday. It took us quite a few hours to see everything. The animals look well looked after in average except those lions and jaguars right st the beginning. I felt very sorry for the lion who kept coughing and crying?! Not sure...
The place is big, more or less looked after. BUT DON'T GO TO THE AQUARIUM!! You pay R6 for nothing just to see only a few aquariums and nothing too exotic except the piranhas! The place looks very old and is not looked after at all.

Interesting aquarium about fishes of São Francisco River Basin, the biggest watershed totally inside Brazilian territory!!!
You can see small to large fish species, including Surubim (over 30 kg), Dourado (over 10 kg) and the famous PIRANHAS ...

Cycling to the waterfalls is quite easily doable although I'd recommend you to get a nice bike otherwise you will be sorr by the end of the day.

I've also been to the ones near Rio Acima but these ones provide more space and easier to access.

I'd definitely go back if I can.

We were in need of a park for our 3 year old boy during the World Cup. I saw this park sited at a blot written by mom's and thought I would give a try. It was a little far from where we were, but was totally worth it. Several park toys for kids, clean gardens, nice area for picnic, kids (locals) will interact with "newcomers" very easily and welcome them to the fun. Bathroom facility very good. There is a picnic area with table painted with board games. It was a ridden jewel that made our visit to Belo Horizonte a success!
