If you are used to rest areas in the USA then you should be ready for an interesting experience... this rest stop by the Expressway boasts great views of Fuji San, excellent restaurants and great gift stores. There are a number of restaurants in this location and we spent a while to decide which one to go to... each looked so good. We had the local delicacies including Sakura Ebi and baby sardines.

It is a place that should not be missed around Mt. Fuji, full of beautiful nature and Fuji National Park. There are many lakes and onsen. With fresh air, lovely people, beautiful nature, worth visiting.

This is a road station identical where one can take a very nice picture with Mount Fuji as the backdrop. In view of the scenery, it is nice to drop by.

I went here before work one spring day, and am glad I took a bit of time to relax before a long workday. I wish I could have spent longer, but liked seeing the cherry blossoms, the sculptures, and some of Mount Fuji. I also would like to have had easier access by public transit.

We borrowed free bikes from the tourist information at Shin Fuji station. The lady was so helpful, showing us on the map the best places to go. It was less tan 5 km til to temple where we could leave our bikes and walk to the top. It was a nice walk, and on the way we met many locals who were brisk-walking to the top. It wasn't exactly far, but good exercise. On top there was a park where many people picnic'ed. There were stalls that sold hot food, and table and chairs we could sit on. Luckily we had bought some red wine from a little store just before we reached the temple. By the time we got to the top mount Fuji, that we had seen on the way had disappeard behind the fog. But it was till beautiful.

This place offers a scenic view with a river flowing amidst greenery and a busy highway with the majestic Fuji San shrouded in clouds against the blue sky. So many ways to take a good photograph, but there is a small rock with a peeping hole through which you can take the perfect picture of Mount Fuji. The service area is also good with a Starbucks Coffee and a food court and a small shopping area. Highly recommended for a visit.

Had a great time at Chanoma. We spent about 1.5 hours there picking tea leaves and enjoying cold tea and shaved ice (and our own BYO snacks from nearby convenience store). The terrace shielded us from the hot summer sun, so this is a great spot for all seasons. The tea farmer showed us how to pick the best tea leaves, it was fun to learn how to pick the best tea leaves!

A great place to chill with a couple of friends! On a clear day you can see Mount Fuji from the terrace...Unfortunately, it wasn't visible that day.

There are also lots of things to do around Shizuoka city. So this is a perfect day trip activity from Tokyo if you're a green tea lover!
