We have been to many" museums" around the US and abroad and this is one of the most important and well done we have experienced!
The holographic historical story tellers were so powerful! An Indigenous telling that everyone should hear and take to heart= the truth from every perspective on the "Blood and Treasure" of this area and America. A must experience!

We love our local zoo! So many animals ! Sadly lately every time we go exhibits are closed or under remodel. We love feeding the fish! The fish food has been unavailable the last four times we went. Boo at the zoo and Christmas as the Zoo are a family tradition in our family now. Staff is always very nice and welcoming ! We seem to always miss the feedings but this Zoo is perfect for little ones! Not too big

Site is unmanned and a little rougher than the others I have visited recently. Admission is free and there are restrooms in the parking area. Beautiful terrain and one can imagine what the original site looked like with a little imagination. Wouldn't go terribly out of the way for this one, but if nearby, worth a stop for sure.

We were visiting from the UK and found this on Tripadvisor as a great stop to break our journey from Dallas out to west Texas. We booked in advance and arrived at the house just before our 1pm visit slot. We were met by our guide, Martin who for the next two hours gave us and another couple a person guided tour of this amazing house. Well worth a stop but do book in advance as it is run by volunteers with limited opening hours.

Visited this past week. History of the company, base and area is well documented though many photos. The artifacts that were there were moving. The folks who built the model scenes in the basement are very talented. Some exhibits were under construction. This is not a high dollar production, which helped bring the authenticity of the photos and pieces to life for me.

The small museum is curated with the original artwork of the currently spotlighted author/illustrator, in this case Loren Long. I think kids would be interested for a bit, but for the adults, especially if you're a kid lit fan, the chance to see original sketches and early ideas for books is fascinating. The statues scattered all over town are fun to look for and we made videos for our granddaughter in front of some of the ones she would recognize. David and Fergus (from the David Shannon books) are in front of the museum. A large and well stocked bookstore is attached featuring author/illustrators that have been highlighted in past exhibitions. They also offer kid art classes, and one was just finishing up when we visited. I noticed lots of happy smiling faces leaving the museum, so I assume they had a great time. Worth checking out if you live in the area!

My husband and I walked through this sculpture garden with storybook sculptures and enjoyed it very much. We especially liked the sculptures of the 3 pigs and the big bad wolf. There were 9 groupings of sculptures depicting various storybooks including the Three Kittens, Wilbur from Charlotte's Web, The Three Bears, Mr. Tiger, Otis the Tractor, and a dinosaur representing 'How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? The sculptures were wonderful and the interpretive signs and plaques were very helpful. A delightful place!

We heard about this and drove over as a goof to say we saw it… and we loved it. Went back the next day with bags of nuts to feed them. Yea they’re cute little creatures and have surprisingly individual personalities — the real treat is how much peace it brings to just watch them go about their business. We were in Abilene for a week visiting my stepson and he loved going there and we did too. Can’t really explain how or why it brings such a calming zen feeling. It worth taking a ride over!

I’m not certain why graves are grouped in several different areas; I suppose I could have stopped at the info center and received more info.

My husband and I visited this museum and enjoyed it very much. On the lower level there is an art gallery which had a photography exhibit at our visit and the ballroom. On the 2nd floor, a very friendly staff member gave us an excellent explanation of the history of Abilene exhibit there. Then we went into the art galleries on that floor which at the time were displaying art work from the schools. The third floor was definitely our favorite part of the museum. In one area, there are recreations of the furnishings of rooms in a home in different time periods---kitchen, parlor, living room. There was also a wonderful display of historical bridal dresses. Another room on the 3rd floor housed an exhibit about the history of the State Epileptic Colony in Abilene. Being a retired nurse, I found this exhibit especially interesting and something I had not known anything about before going to this museum. We spent about 1 hour and 45 minutes there.

The Israel room was very well done. Such an excellent and informative display! The recreated Ark of the Covenant and First & Second Tabernacle we’re fantastic! So was the Holocaust section.

The Noah’s Ark, Titanic and section on giants was interesting.

The topographical land and water interactive sand display was absolutely amazing!

The live animals and gift shop were interesting.

The outdated robot section felt like a garage sale and are the reason for the one star deduction.

The pottery and information from the Holy land was small, but very interesting.

So the newer sections of the museum are done with excellence and worth a visit! Some of the older sections feel outdated and make you want to run; so persevere and enjoy the excellent parts!

A place to chill, sip beer, play games and socialise. Good selection of beers - indoor and outdoor seating and wheelchair access!

This is not just a furniture or antique store. Clothing, jewelry, soap, children’s items. We bought a very unique rocking chair. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Our dogs came in and helped us shop.
