He was the other half of the “Goodyear” tire company. His dedication to his employees, their philanthropy, and their willingness to serve the country during the two great wars is true Americana at heart. During your self-guided tour (audio and guide led tours available for an extra fee), we learned how these humble folks worked to build a massive empire that employed tens of thousands and provided for many more. And although the heirs to the family wealth led to a privilidged life, the young men of the family dutifully signed up for duty with the armed services and served before returning back to the business to carry it on. We also saw the lives of the women of the family and how they gave to many causes in order to better the lives of all. The mansion the family lived in was nothing short of an amazing American version of an English Tudor Castle. The garden grounds is a must see during late summer when all is in full bloom. There were so many beautiful butterflies too. And adorable chipmunks you'd see around that you can feed! I can't say enough good things. The green pond was picturesque and we got some great shots. - Randy K3 contributionsWent to see Josh Gates April 14th. Beautiful older theatre, easy access, and wonderful acoustics. Con is it was hot, I mean hot and uncomfortable with that many people. - David CWadsworth, OH3,100 contributionsFirst time to the Akron museum of art. We got in for free due to it being a blue star museum. It’s mainly contemporary art. There are no classic pieces. The galleries rotate and right now they some photography and “reflections.” Some of the pieces are not appropriate for children but I understand that is the artists view of art. It’s a cool downtown Akron location across from the Akron art museum. Paid parking in the neighboring parking garage, unless you can find street parking a couple blocks away on Main Street.
