- Michelle1 contributionI had the pleasure of booking eight massages for my family members (all adults) at Urban Retreat Spa and everyone reported an excellent experience.
I went in person to make appointments and the staff member was very helpful and patient since we had so many people to coordinate. They were also upfront with the available staff. For example, on one day there were three female therapists and one male therapist; the male only was able to do specific massages. Some people in the group knew what specific treatment they wanted and others needed more time. For the latter, they were able to WhatsApp Urban Retreat later on in the day. Everyone selected 90 minute massages and we had four people go on Friday and an additional four had their massages on Saturday.
Most of my male family members chose the Swedish Thai massage because we heard the Deep Tissue could get quite intense and the Lymph massage used strong magnets. One member had to select the Head Over Heels (head, neck, shoulder, feet) special because it was one of the treatments the male masseuse was able to do. Of the women one chose the Prenatal massage as she was five months pregnant and I chose the Aromatherapy.
We paid a deposit which was the full cost of two massages to complete our reservation. They accepted foreign credit cards.
On the day of the appointment, an additional person in the family wanted a massage last minute and Urban Retreat was able to accommodate her at the same time as other family members which was very lucky of us they had enough staff (5+ people for one time slot).
We started on time. The therapists were very kind and took our shoes to a shelf while they washed our feet. Some therapists were more fluent in English than others but everyone understood key words so people could adjust the pressure of their massages as necessary.
I had a wonderful therapist named May who was very confident in her English. She made me feel very well taken care of from the start. She gave me adequate time (not too long/short) to change and never disappeared to take a break, etc. She checked on how the pressure was within ten minutes of starting and made the perfect adjustment when I said she could go just a tad harder. I was loose as a noodle by the time we were finished (and also a bit oily from the massage oil, even though she wiped me down with a warm towel, but that is to be expected anywhere).
The treatment room is nicely decorated with faux plants and lots of space to hang your clothes. The table became heated at some point during the massage which I liked. Another person in the group thought it was too warm so I’m sure you can ask them to turn it off. The hole for your face in the table is surrounded in plush silicone which felt like an upgrade from just a cushion and more sanitary. They covered the silicone padding with another layer of tissue (kind of like a toilet seat cover) for additional cleanliness. The music was instrumental and of an appropriate type and volume for relaxation. I could not hear any talking from staff or other customers which was great. The lighting was just right.
If I had two small wishes I would have liked a bowl of flowers or something to look at on the floor once once I put my face through the hole. I ended up just keeping my eyes closed the whole time which was fine because I was so relaxed. My second wish would be to select what kind of scent I got for the aromatherapy. I think it was lemongrass which was fine but I think rose, lavender, jasmine or just any choice would have felt nice to be able to match my mood and preference.
Despite these very minor constructive comments, everyone in our party would happily return to Urban Retreat during future visits to Malaysia. Everything from... the ambience (music, lights and different types of essential oil used), interior, the water/snacks... to the onsen (includes a safety feature) and and experience were carefully thought out for the clientele. The amenities available such as the basic skincare products, sheet mask (onsen), far exceeded my expectations. Every single second was pure bliss and the entire experience can only be described as divine. We started with a steam bath, meant to gradually soothe our minds into a state of relaxation and prepare our bodies for the massage. The body massage was just perfect - i was drifting into “semi-consciousness” but aware enough to feel the muscular sensation and enjoy the massage. The facial massage was a welcome surprise and was extremely relaxing. They used Thalgo products so you know your skin is in for a treat. I rushed there and had a good body fixed even though it's just Head Shoulder & Foot massage for 60 minutes. I was feeling totally refresh after the massage. I only had a month to spare in Malaysia but the team and Saba made sure that I had adequate training and guidance to empower me with fundamental massage skills. The course not only covers a massage routine but the necessary considerations and methods in starting a massage practice. The additional introduction to essential oil workshop was also a stepping stone into extending our care routine for me and my family. I am enthused with the skills and knowledge I've acquired and am optimistic in starting my own home business practice, as well as nurturing my family and loved ones with a more holistic approach to wellness.
On top of that, I found the location quite convenient via LRT. Plenty of food options around. - Jolie C4 contributionsI was looking for a two hour massage before heading home and came across this spa. Such an attentive and service oriented spa! They ordered me a Grab because it was pouring and I couldn’t get one myself with all those other requests during that peak period. I had a great massage with just the right amount of pressure. Without me even having to tell her, she spotted the problem areas and fixed them. That is one heck of a skill compared to the past massages I have had. They do use quite some oil, but not to worry! You are offered to take a shower if you like. Had some great ginger tea afterwards as well!
