The host and staff were really nice and friendly. The ceremony was explained thoroughly in English, and the host's explanation was clear and graceful, making the whole experience so peaceful and meaningful. Also the kimono, obi, and bag collections were so pretty! I am a hijab wearer and they put a flower hairpin on me, which I loved so much. Afterwards, we get to take pictures at the beautiful garden. The host went an extra mile making sure we had good pictures ang good experience. Totally recommend it to everyone coming to Kyoto!

My family and I have recently arrived in Japan for an extended stay. My husband and I booked this course to increase our understanding of Japanese food culture and the range of options that we'll be able to buy food for at the supermarket to prepare at home. It was an informative and excellent experience. We hope to do another of the courses on offer as soon as we perfect the recipes that we learnt in the Bento Box cooking class.

Despite the hot weather, the family and I really enjoyed tasting the green tea and sitting in the calm and relaxing atmosphere of Camellia Flower Teahouse. Our tea master Nao-san, gave us a very simple but thorough explaination of all the steps of the tea ceremony and why each step is taken. Nao-san also helped in making our own tea and I enjoyed listening to her instructions, since it gave me the best macha I've ever had! The Matcha tea was delicious, and it's given me a new appreciation for the flavour. Highly recommended for everyone visiting Kyoto and wanting to spend a very enlightening and peaceful hour in this grand city.

We enjoyed three hours as a family with Kaori who was a very welcoming host. We learned a great deal about Japanese cuisine and had great fun creating a delicious meal for ourselves including a Sushi roll, individual Sushi (Kyoto style!), soup and a green bean salad. Kaori, who is an excellent teacher, speaks English very well and explained everything to us in detail including the correct way to hold chopsticks ... which seemingly I’d been doing incorrectly for years! Come hungry as the meal you prepare is very substantial!!

While planning for my trip to Japan I wanted to try a new experience and was provided with an incredible opportunity through traveling spoon. I booked my experience with Michiyo Kobori who provided in detail what to expect for the evening. Connecting most to these details provided by my pending host I chose her to be my guide to Japanese cuisine for the evening. I was given ample instructions in how and when to meet her (Important as I was nervous already about directions and getting lost). Michiyo also maintained email correspondence to ensure no confusion as well. I was greeted at our meeting spot with kindness and a warm welcome by my host.

From there we traveled a short distance in Michiyo's car to her home; another warm welcome from the family dog as well. There Michiyo provided a short demonstration and description on the key flavors of Japan and also prominent ingredients found in Japanese cooking. Following the short lesson we got to work with the night's dinner (Also printed out in excellently explained recipe sheets as a keepsake and future referencing).

The meal was a simple and traditional one consisting of 5 courses. It was fun taking the time to make these dishes and also learning the tricks to making them well when I get home. I am still amazed by the little tool for measuring and whisking miso paste. Delicious and easy to achieve; Michiyo provided me a great memory on my stop in Kyoto. The photos I took gained me many comments and likes from friends and family alike inquiring as to when I would be gracing them with the same opportunities to try Michiyo's cooking.

I was also introduced to Michiyo's husband who provided hearty and light dinner and post dinner conversations. They were helpful in their recommendations for the journey in Japan. Again, their directions for how to get to Osaka from Kyoto were most welcome.

I would highly recommend this activity for anyone on their trip to Japan. Whether it be a solo or in a group; Look up Michiyo in Kyoto as your guide to the world of Japanese cuisine.

The cooking class was amazingly fun! Everything was stress-free and we made delicious recipes that I feel comfortable replicating on my own at home. The teacher was very kind and patient, and everything was available in perfect English. :)

Fantastic experience, made tea, learned about the tradition of tea ceremony and the proper etiquette! Tea was delicious! Highly recommend this experience. Seats are offered, but I am wildly inflexible and was able to make it on the floor. Photos are allowed, just no videos.

Nice experience, Emika was a nice host; the sushi were good and thanks to her we now know how to make them.
The location is a bit difficult to find and a little “impersonal”

The ceremony was lovely and explained in perfect English. Then we were allowed to make our own tea and given sweets to eat with it.

Purchased this experience as a Valentine’s Day gift for my fiancé. We both had such a wonderful time learning to cook with Emika. She was very friendly and patient with us. We chose to upgrade to the option where Emika picked us up and brought us to her house. It probably would’ve been a bit difficult to find on our own. We highly recommend this for couples looking for a unique experience in Kyoto!

A must see! Aya and her husband are wonderful hosts! Aya showed us a traditional tea ceremony in a beautiful setting. She was wonderful to talk to and even gave us suggestions for activities and shops in the area. I will definitely go again if I ever visit Kyoto again.
