- Edward LBristol, UK81 contributionsLike most historic sites in China this is a modern reconstruction, understandable given the history of destructive wars, but worth a visit nonetheless. You can walk around the whole of the old city or hire a push-bike and cycle along the top of the walls. You get a great view of the old city centre and it made me feel like David Niven in '55 Days at Peking'!

The grandure of the pagoda is evident, just would have been nice to have seen it without the green covering! Nevermind, if it helps to preserve the pagoda for future generations I am sure it is worth it! Outside, there is a very modern and nice park, plenty of food options and malls nearby and the water fountain show in the evening plus the illuminations / lighting makes for a special atmosphere. - ThaiCookingRocksChangchun, China774 contributionsI don't do tour groups but on rare occasion. I am not a fan of tour groups because they tend to be more expensive than they are worth, but I will glad say that the money I paid for the Travel China Guide in Xi'an was outstanding.
A groups of 5 Americans were first picked up at the airport and brought to our hotel. Tracey talked to us about the history of Xi'an for most of the ride and it was fascinating. She told us so much wonderful information about all the Dynasties.
I have been picked up by tours and then just had the guides be lumps. She was engaging, and friendly her English was strong and it was a great way to start Xi'an. The driver was safe and wasn't too fast or too slow.
The next day we went to the Terracotta Warriors and Han Yang Ling Museum. The Terracotta Warriors is not to be missed, but having Tracey there made it so much better. She knows her history and presents it in a great way.
She brought us to a great lunch spot where we got a tea service and wonderful noodles and then to the Han Yang Ling Museum that most people miss.
Its a great counter point to the Terracotta Warriors. The pits have a glass walkway over them. You get to see many artifacts still in place from after the ceiling collapsed, but its a very different perspective. The artifacts are samplers, there are tunnels not pits, but Tracy was so helpful in explaining the area, and the tunnels.
Tracy and Travel Guide China has made me feel that not all tours are too much money. They have been great and can't wait to see them on Wednesday for the next day tour!
I have spent alot of time singing the praises of Tracy and her skills, but Angela, a faceless person on WeChat has been great in all of her help as well. Helen stitched together thousands of years of Chinese history throughout our visits to the terracotta warriors, the Xi'an museum and the ancient city walls. Helen gave us many superb food recommendations, in particular Xi'an's thick spinach noodles and the famous Muslim street. The trip was made very straightforward and we were supported at every step of the journey which gave us great peace of mind, even with COVID restrictions. The tour around the city walls by bike was a particular highlight. Helen also recommended the Nearwall bar which is a fantastic place for coffee and craft beer enthusiasts. China Highlights have been very flexible and responsive. - Michael O3 contributionsMy annual holiday usually focuses on the months of November/December. Having travelled much of the world I have learnt to do a preliminary itinerary early in the year usually based on others experiences and research on the internet but hand it over to experts when the plan gets clearer. This year I chose China for my annual vacation and true to form, I contacted Odynovotours and their experienced travel consultant, Mike Goa, to set the wheels in motion. After the initial exchange of emails, Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai were short listed. The most popular sights highlighted, a selection of hotels recommended according to my budget, transport, airport transfers, meals and personal advice were generated and a final decision was taken. On what proved to be a superb vacation, Xi'an stood out for a few different reasons. Met by my tour guide, the fluent english speaking Jessie brought me on a wonderful experience. Starting with the opportunity to see the legendry Terracotta Warriors, this was an experience to behold. Jessie gave 2 full hours of their background and seemed to stroll through the morning which made it so enjoyable. Back to the city to visit The Wild Goose Pagoda, she was still at ease describing the background. She took me for a long walk in the same area to view many monuments and statues still giving an in depth background. The next morning commenced with a visit to the Ancient City Wall but both of us feeling energetic and revisiting our youth, hired bicycles and went about cycling the 13km wall with it's 14m wide cobble stone surface. What an experience!!! Poor Jessie felt the pressure and demanded a pit stop. This was followed by a visit to a Chinese family on the 15th floor of an apartment complex where I was introduced to the husband and wife and became the touring chef when shown and then made to prepare dumplings and noodles which we cooked and ate. - lopsidedloafer21 contributionsXian Tour did another outstanding job of setting up a private tour to see beautiful Yunnan province in China. Sophie's customer service was excellent as she provide ideas for the visit and built an excellent itinerary. We were booked into excellent hotels in the heart of Ancient towns which allowed us to walk around and enjoy the sights. the guides were knowledgeable about the region and culture. - JJ503Victoria277 contributionsThis show is very popular and most tourists attend it. Despite some poor reviews of the dumpling dinner, we decided to give it a try. Our conclusion: skip the dumpling dinner and just come for the show! There were only 8 people at the pre-show dumpling dinner, and after the dinner, we can understand why everybody else came just for the show. None of the dumplings looked fresh, all looked like shapeless things that had sat around for a long time, and none were warm or hot. There was a hair on my husband's plate of cold starters, which was gross, not that there was anything worth eating on that plate (some cucumber slices and unappetizing fatty ham). The show itself was worth seeing, with beautiful costumes and dancing. It was a bit strange that the mainly Chinese audience didn't applaud after each dance, only the few foreigners did. Eventough i do not understand a story (everything in Chinese) but whole show take my full concentration. Visual, beutiful, amazing...
