great view over the lake. If you are a photographer you should come before the sunset. You have to take the ski cable up about 15 minutes ( wear warm clothes because it might be freezing) from there 10-15 minutes walk . near the rock shamans Holly place.

I have seen negative reviews of this place but our experience was excellent. we had an English speaking guide who did not rush us, so if there was a loud or noisy group going through we just stopped and waited for them to move past.
The exhibits are well displayed but the submarine is the best.

from Listvyanka, it's about 5 km walk along the Baikal lake shore, then the ferry across, then walk along the railroad track for as long as you want, we did about 8 km past the first tunnel. The trail is flat but long when you have to come back the same way.

We got a taxi up to the cablecar, its a bit of walk from the main road. After we'd made arrangements for the taxi to return and pick us up, we found out that on Mondays the cablecar doesn't start until 1600! Slightly annoying, particularly after we had spoken with our hotel staff about getting there, what it was like and what goes on there. So with an hour to fill we began the hike up the hill, unfortunately for us we didn't realise there was a good walking track until we stumbled across it half way up! By that time we were exhausted after bush bashing through the snow and forest! Any hoo, the views are amazing, we had a clear day and the lake looked beautiful. Every other day its open in the morning, so in winter, just ensure you check out the times if you don't feel like walking. It's not a hard walk up, not too steep, we're mid 40s, smoke and didn't have a problem once we found the track. You can also hire ski or snow boards boots etc if you want to do so, and the price for hiring was very reasonable. One of those photos with the two people walking up hill, that is not the track so don't be put off by that shot.

Strange looking building, but very clean and well kept. Seals are a delight and seem happy. Only presented in Russian, but that didn’t stop the enjoyment

This is a very nice, very modest, very unique in its history, Russian Orthodox Church well off-the-beaten-path here in Listvyanka, Russia. I have no idea whatsoever of how other visitors find it. My wife and I were with Russian friends who, knowing Listvyanka like the back-of-their hands, drove us here in their automobile.

The rest of this story about getting to the church is this : The road into it, and out from it if you continue forward, is a bit of a challenge. Narrow with deep ruts to name two items.

During our visit, a church service was in progress. So I did not take any interior photos of the church out of respect to the parishioners attending the Mass.

It is also a two-fer. Two for the price of one. If you continue going straight up the road after you leave the church, just a short distance up the road is another Trip Advisor attraction, The Museum Retro Park.

The two attractions together, in my opinion, make the side-trip to see them well worth the effort.

We were for five days in Listvyanka in Januara. Lake Baikal was frozen of course.
Follow the street to SE, passing smaller houses. Here you can buy much more cheaper omul than in the market place. You will come to a picnic place with grills for anyone. The grills were be used this day by several people. Follow the valley, pass a fence, make a wide right turn back down the valley.
The observatory consist of several towers. Not very spectacular. You can now go downhill to the edge and return on ice.
    Arround 60 minutes.

Prepare to be attacked by the vendors! They are quite aggressive here. You can stroll down the isles and pick a smoked or salty fish you like. Most of the vendors sell fish, and most of the choices are good!
There is a BBQ stand at the front entrance to the market. We got some BBQ take away for dinner and it was good.

Even if you’re not into rocks, go to this museum just to get to know the owner’s life. The gems are beautiful and the coins very interesting, but the coolest part was the owner demonstrating his babushka’s 100 year old record player or making us smell old Russian cologne.
