Many of the tourists from my tour group they without a doubt, leaped in the freezing late back in Oct 2012 when temperature reached as low as -10C! - dominic594whitburn Scotland149 contributionsWe only had a couple of days in Listvyanka and we arranged with Tanya Oparina to meet and do a couple of shore dives from our Cabin at the campsite Deverenka. Tanya arrived promptly at 9am as arranged and after a short drive we arrived at the Iron Steps dive site. As we had come of the train we used the full equipment rental option and all of the gear was in good condition.
After a comprehensive briefing on the dive we had an excellent wall dive and saw lots of the Amphipoda, or freshwater shrimp that Lake Baikal is known for.
For the second dive we moved toward the Village of Listvyanka and dived on the old port. This too was a wall dive with the remains of the wooden port scattered over the wall face. There were also several grottoes and the remains of some cranes and huge wheels from the guns that would have been at the harbour.

There are several tours offering cruise around the lake and it is worth to take a short cruise on this magnificent lake.
In winter this lake is frozen up to 2 meters of ice and trucks drive along it.

the gentleman that I worked with was called Eugene (Evgeny in Russian). He could not have been better.
He was helpful, kind, attentive, always willing and always available. I cannot say enough good things about him. He was outstanding. I recommend that no matter what trip you are planning in this region of Russia you seek him out and hire his services.
He was well priced and for the money you pay him you could not get better.
