I walked around the bridge taking some photos and also over it, taking some more. Walking over is not nice - the traffic was quite intense during the day, with noise and dust. I liked much better the views of Volga including the bridge and the church, from the bank opposite to the church.

It locates in The City Garden. I suppose, this monument is one of the most famous views of Tver. The most remarkable thing is that there are parts of old cobblestone road and fence. In this place you can feel the flavour of the nineteenth century. And among the city rush you can find silent and relaxing place where you can take a walk under the trees and look at the slow river water.

This monumental equestrian statue, mounted on a large white pedestal in a spacious square in the city, does not have the sense of energy and motion so evident in that of Yurih Dolgoruky in Moscow’s Tverskaya Square, but given the density of traffic surrounding the latter, its peaceful location make it much safer to walk around and take a good look. A nephew of the great Alexander Nevsky, he ruled as Prince of Tver for a decade or so, antagonizing first Novgorod, then the Orthodox Church, and finally the Great Kahn of the Golden Horde (Tartars) who appointed him in the first place. He had his head chopped off by the Tartars that, in those days, was reason enough for Sainthood, and the Church -------- despite past quarrels ----- canonized him as St. Mikhail of Tver. Of course, none of this is evident from the horse or its rider, but at least it makes a good story for tour guides to relate.

We just stopped here for a break om our drive to Moscow. We got a coffee at one of the wee kiosks amd watched the world go by including a procession of brides getting their photos taken in this beautiful spot.

    Worth a wee look !

The main street of the city. Sometimes not very well maintained, but overall looks decent. Here is almost everything state and local governments, urban, Park, theatres, museums, some monuments, churches, Catholic Church and mosque. Wide, light, stretches along the river, parallel to the waterfront. A lot of cars, but not excessively

Situated in one of the main squares of this quiet and dignified city, this is one of the most rigidly tense statues of anyone anywhere. He stands on top of a very high brick plinth that emphasizes his diminutive stature. Clad, as always, in a coat that is much too long for him, his right arm points outwards holding a rolled piece of paper that is obviously not a love letter. At his back there is a very large bank, a beautifully ironic touch, as much as to say “Here I am turning my back on you damned capitalists”. There is nothing likeable, charming, or sympathetic about his features, in contrast to the monster that followed him, who is always painted or sculpted as an image of everyone’s favourite uncle. He did a great job getting rid of the Czar and the dreadful Romanov family, but he had a harder job choosing his successor. After all, if it hadn’t been Stalin it would have been Trotsky! I was not sure, as I drew nearer to his likeness, whether I should say “ may you rest in Peace!” or “may you rot in Hell!”

There is nothing particularly unique about these letters. They're big, and they spell out the city name. It's a nice place to walk, and enjoy the views of the river.
