I loved the Vareshchagin hall which included his most famous central Asian paintings of war and death. Many of the most famous Russian paintings are here and there are some spectacular ones. This is one of the best art museums in the world. Vasnetsov's Bogatyrs is incredible. I really liked "The Rooks have Come Back" by Savrasov. There are a bunch of great forest scenes by Shishkin. If you are a Vrubel fan then you have to come here too. This is a definite must-see museum in Moscow. Yes, it's sort of far from the centre, but the place is easily accessible by subway (really one of the best in the world!) and somewhat less so by car, due to intensive traffic (which is much friendlier on weekends, by the way).
Do choose nice weather, whatever season it is; it's the key to a pleasant stay. We did, and we enjoyed every minute of it!
Kolomenskaya metro station has just been reopened after a thorough overhaul (Kashirskaya too); the highway bordering it on the west is covered with brand-new asphalt; lawns are reformatted; all underground crossings are rebranded. So, the multi-annual renovation had been at last completed, literally just days before.
The park is charming and very well maintained. Key attractions have already been mentioned here, so I'd just add that it's quite often that various zany festivals, festivities, open-air games, etc. are organised there on weekends. Thus, do check in advance on their site (it has an English and even a Chinese page), please.
Parking alternatives are huge, and there shouldn't be any problem leaving one's car there, sometimes even for free.
Due to its enormous size, one may feel that toilet and café/restaurant facilities are scarce in some areas. Do bear in mind. I'd also recommend taking a walk through its distant, wilder part, which is closer to the Moskva River. Privacy will be superb!

Ballet is superb and the best in the world, while opera may raise questions.
Practical tips for your visit:
Book tickets waay in advance, it's very hard to get;
Theater has multiple entrancies, it will take some time to find yours;
Taking pictures is officially allowed during the breaks;

- Takarasina2,131 contributionsThis 19th-century sumptuous construction in the heart of Moscow is both a department store, a "live" museum, and an entertainment venue. I go there a lot since I live in this mind-blowing metropolis.
It's a haven for those gung-ho for shopping, of course (take a wallet as thick as possible!), but one may also find some really lovely, authentically Russian knick-knacks there, such as gingerbread figurines (Russian style!), hand-painted matryoshka dolls, artisanal clay toys, the whole shebang.
Additionally, there's a restaurant on the ground level called Bosco Cafe (don't be fooled by the name; it's really a restaurant, and a posh one). Cheaper eateries are located under the clerestory roof upstairs.
