Wonderful experience! I went with my son in the morning and we saw the bird show and pet the monkeys and capybara. Well definitely come back again.

I visit the zoo in a rainy day, we cannot go to lake side, but the zoo area still amazing. I like Japan zoo very much, it is really kid friendly. There has a mini plaza for kids touch, feed and explore animal.

This is one of the original malls built after the war and a frequent spot for local events inside the mall. Some of the old original shops are still here like Rogers & Tuttle books which carries many english language books. It also houses my favorite taco restaurant on island, Senor Taco so they get bonus points for that.

A local landmark in Koza, very unique and local american stores. Visit if you are around, but do not deserve the trip

I spent time on mainland, shrines where everywhere up there. Now I live close to the Awase Shrine and it's nice to have here, reminds me of mainland. The shrine is very nicely decorated and pretty large. I strolled past here the day after New Years and it was packed! Normally, there is hardly anyone here. There are some friendly kitties here as well. I don't know much about the Shrine, but it's worth visiting.

Interesting smaller museum on Koza Street which overall is fairly rundown and doesn't seem to get much (daylight) business now. Some items on the immediate aftermath of the second world war and fighting on Okinawa - refugee camps, relocation camps for Okinawans sent to mainland japan, etc. There is loads of information here, but the vast majority in labeled in Japanese only - a shame as the US has such a role in the post-1945 story of the islands. There are some highpoints though - mainly about negative issues such as the leaking and eventual disposal of US chemical munitions stored on the island, and who would have ever heard of the riots of 1970, where over 18 US vehicles (including MP cars) were torched in the middle of the street by and angry mob? Great stuff. There are also hints of so many other untold stories unfortunately - the segregated bars of the time, bar fights, drug use and prostitution, etc etc. Many B&W photos appear unique. There appears to be a section on the islands 1974 reversion to Japanese rule, but how did it work? How was it implemented. Rich history here, but largly untold. Perhaps a personal tour guide could make sense of these things. Oddly enough, this is another museum that has a "no photography" rule (not enforced). A shame, as there are many interesting artifacts here.

Gintengai is an arcade shopping district near the Koza Crossroads.

Gintengai was developed into a market from April 1951 when Barack huts were built at the intersection of Military Route 24 (current: National Route 330) and Military Route 13 (current: National Route 329). is. After that, the Koza Cross Road Market Association and the Honcho-dorikai, which was adjacent to the market union, merged in 1976 and named it Gintengai. But by the example the city is now drowning.

The area around Gintengai's main street and going up the meandering slope is the area said to be the Teruya black town. When we go into the alleys that were once black towns, there are still buildings that used to be bars and buildings that used to do sex work for American soldiers.

If you are a history buff or a Karate history buff this is a must stop on your trip. You can see the monument and location of Kyan Chotoku's home and dojo.

Nice place to pick up healthy foods--fruits and vegetables. Not the place to pick up junk food! Ok selection but not so big.
