What travelers are saying
- Toru OSetagaya, Japan1,593 contributionsLocated near Okayama castle and a 15 minute walk from the station. Completed in 1700 and retains most of its beauty. This is one of the most fabulous Japanese gardens you should visit when you're in Japan. It should also be combined with an excursion to Okayama castle, which is currently closed for renovations (wait till Nov 2022).Written April 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Toru OSetagaya, Japan1,593 contributionsA hidden gem located in the middle of nowhere but definitely worth the visit. The shrine sits atop a hill that offers a great scenery. The temple complex includes a long corridor.
The shrine can be accessed via Momotaro line that starts and ends at Okayama station. Get off at Kibitsu station. It's an 8-minute walk from the station and you can enjoy the view of a typical Japanese countryside on your way.
Don't forget to check the time on your way back before heading to the shrine, as the trains don't operate so frequently. The train doors won't open automatically so you need to press a button by the doors to open them yourself (something you experience with typical Japanese countryside train).Written April 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Kimitaka STaichung, Taiwan11,958 contributionsIt is a newly opened huge shopping mall. It is linked to JR Okayama station by an underground passage. What is amazing is the beauty of its design. Shopping areas are bright and spacious. It is also a strong point that there are many rest areas with comfortable chairs. A shopping mall is indeed not a touristic attraction like a temple or a museum, but I believe that this mall is worth taking a look.Written March 29, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- cslypOkayama, Japan10 contributionsA very relaxing island with many art attractions, old narrow, charming streets, and a beach and campground. A daytrip is good enough, but it is very peaceful to stay the night when most tourists are gone.Written July 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Aung YeMunOkayama, Japan206 contributionsWhen I went there in the morning, the weather is cold. It has nice scene to capture photos. We can also check small pond in front of this temple. If you are interested, you can insert 100 coin at the wooden box area to get a fortune wooden stick. Its in english translation paper.Written August 31, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Melinda GOsaka, Japan471 contributionsIt’s an expensive ferry ride from Naoshima (¥1880 one way) but very well worth it. We took the first ferry at 920 am from Miyanoura port and arrived at 1015. We got our tickets and went straight to this museum. We were the first to arrive so we had the place to ourselves. We were really impressed with how they incorporated the artwork with the former copper refinery. After walking through, there is a path outside that leads you around the back of the refinery which most people don’t bother checking out.
We would definitely make another trip here in the future.Written November 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Emma COxford, UK2,270 contributionsYumeji Art is right next to Korakuen...I combined the two and saved a few hundred yen on the ticket price.
The art here is just lovely...lots of ladies in wistful poses...no signage in English, but they will give you some things to read in English. I just enjoyed taking it all in...didn't really miss the explanations. There is also another site with even more exquisite pieces. ..you can get there by bus. The ladies will give you instructions.Written August 9, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,751 contributionsThe Okayama Castle is very unique compared to other castles throughout Japan in several ways. The most notable is the black color while other traditional castles are white. Other unique features include the location right by the river and the shape as it is not square like. This castle was rebuilt so it is not an original castle but it is replicated from what it used to look like. The grounds are massive here and the castle is quite large. I bought a combined castle and garden ticket here which is worth it. I felt the museum to be a bit bland but you get nice views from the top. Since the castle is so unique, I highly recommend visiting Okayama to visit the castle.Written December 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- YuTakimotoExeter, UK5 contributionsHere is close to Okayama station. you can take a bus, a bike or a bus from the station to here.
But I recommen you cycling there during a busy season like spring and early summer because of the queue for a car park. I visited in very nice weather having a beautiful blue sky and fresh air. The harmony of colours of cherry blossoms, the sky and greens amazed me. They went really well. with each other. Everywhere is too busy to relax and just enjoy the atmosphere in ohanami season( the season of full bloom of cherry blossoms). In my opinion here is less clowded than well- known places like Korakuen,so I'll recomend this place if you wanna escape from the noises or go with family.Written April 4, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Kimitaka STaichung, Taiwan11,958 contributionsNishikawa Canal Park is rather a promenade along a canal. Although it is in the center of a big city, the water of the canal is clean and refreshing. Trees are planted on the both sides of the canal, and it creates a oasis of Okayama.Written August 11, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- QUEENOFEUROPEManchester, UK49 contributionsA long walk from transport stops, the zoo is clean however, some of the animals look a little tatty and the cages for the big cats are small.Written April 7, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Hanan BRamat Gan, Israel535 contributionsLooking over some previous reviews, I learn that the museum has a collection. The reason I mention this is because on my visit today, there was nothing to be seen from said collection, as they were having a special exhibition of ancient swords (i.e. From the 13 th century through the 16th). This, in light of the fact that in ancient times, a place near Okayama was one of the most important sword manufacturers in Japan.
The swords are interesting, but I apparently have a sword viewing time limitation, and before I gave up and left, I had seen about 50 swords. I was dying for a vase or a tea set just to break the monotony but no dice.
To their credit, one of the women cashiers brought me some pretty impressive literature in English (12 pages) prepared especially for the exhibition, giving far more information on swords than I needed.Written October 1, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - jane MTakayama, Japan8 contributionsEasy to ride & to work out what stop to get off at
