Had a wonderful expirence shopping for my first tanzanite bracelet! Elitruda was so helpful and patient with me when I asked to try on items that caught my eye. I recommend everyone go check her out at the 4points hotel shop.

Jane Goodall has had multiple speaking engagements here- that’s an endorsement all its own.

For shoppers seeking a curated experience of the best in African artifacts, fine arts, a restaurant, entertainment, and (key for many visitors) gemstones, specifically Tanzanite, this place has it all. While there is a great selection of tanzanite jewelry, the center offers amazing value in high quality loose gemstones of any size. One can customize any setting for their gem and pick up the finished jewelry in a week.

Nearly all of the reviews left here are of Ngorogoro Crater. Ngurudoto Crater in Arusha National Oark is beautiful, but you cannot enter it, nor are there any lions or rhino in Arusha National Park. 🤨

Last April we visited the northern parks of Tanzania: Serengeti, Tarangire and the Ngorongoro crater. Our safari experience was elevated to extraordinary levels by the impeccable planning and execution by Galloping Safaris. From the seamless logistics to the top-notch accommodations, every detail was thoughtfully arranged to ensure a memorable adventure.

A special commendation goes to our guide, Anderson. He was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and enthusiastic, bringing the safari to life with fascinating insights into the wildlife and ecosystems. Anderson had an uncanny ability to spot animals from great distances and ensured we had the best vantage points for viewing and photographing wildlife. His passion and respect for the environment and commitment to conservation were truly inspiring.

Swala was recommended by a friend who used them 12 years ago and had a great experience with them. I reached out to Swala based in Tanzania and another company based in Kenya also recommended by another friend. Immediately I could see how well organized and detailed Swala’s itinerary was compared to the other company. I didn’t have the time or energy to devote a lot of time to planning this trip so I needed someone who would be on top of their game without a lot of babysitting and I got the sense that Swala was going to be it. Well we just got back yesterday and I can say that I was not wrong! The trip just blew the water out of all our previous international vacations(of which there are many!). Our guide Evod was amazing! Very experienced, knowledgeable, patient, kind and friendly. He showed us so many animals, navigated everywhere with ease. He truly is a very kind soul who tried to help everyone he came across.

We landed in Arusha and ended our trip in Zanzibar. When Evod bid us goodbye in Serengeti on our way to Zanzibar, both my teen(!!) kids commented separately about how they were going to miss Evod. Being in a foreign country can induce some anxiety for kids, I sensed that Evod made them feel safe and at ease right away.

The service at every camp was just amazing. The Tanzanian people are so friendly, everyone we came across left us amazed at their kindness and generosity.

Zanzibar was a perfect end to our trip. Every lodge/camp/hotel that Stephen booked was great. Highly recommend Swala. Stephen and Evod made our trip so memorable!

We had an amazing week in Tanzania with our guide Musa. Especially the walking safari we did in Tarangire left a lasting impression. Seeing a lot of animals from close by is a really special experience. The safaris in Serengeti were better than we could have dreamed, especially the lions we saw from very close were unforgettable. Sleeping in a tent in Serengeti was a wonderful experience with the sounds of lions, hippos, buffaloes, etc just outside our tent. The wildebeest migration in the northern Serengeti is a must-see!

We booked this trip with Herman from the office who was very accommodating! We built a custom itinerary to ensure we could go straight on safari after the hike. The hike itself was incredibly organised and our team of porters were amazing making sure we had everything we needed on the mountain. They always greeted us warmly and went out of their way to help us. Richard our guide was incredible, his knowledge of the mountain second to none and his patience brilliant. He soon judged our ability and went at a pace to suit us whilst ensuring the acclimatising process was done properly! He kept us laughing daily to keep morale high and we couldn’t be more grateful for this. Food in camp was also exceptional given it’s cooked all off a small portable stove, the menu was kept varied and full of the nourishment we needed to climb the mountain and Benja the chef even made a delicious birthday cake. Overall the Gosheni team were incredible and for a company known for Safaris the hiking team are brilliant and deserve more credit!

We went on this safari for our anniversary and we could not have spent it better. Our guide Max was very knowledgeable and the whole crew did everything to make our safari memorable. What was even more special is that they went our of their way to help my now fiancé with his proposal. Can’t recommend then enough!

We had a great safari trip with Shadows of Africa.
We spent 10D9N and visited several National Parks in Tanzania including Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara,Tarangire and Arusha. Thanks to Hayley, Ben and their colleagues who planned and arranged our trip so well that we didn’t need to worry anything and just enjoyed our trip. All the accommodations and food are nice. Our guide, Charles, is extraordinary. He is experienced and knowledgeable with the wildlife. He is able to anticipate when and where the animals occur. He brought us to see all the big fives and the wildebeest river crossing. He is able to identify all the mammals and birds we encountered and shared a lot of interesting facts about the animals. Charles is also a trustable driver. He can drive safe in the bumpy and muddy roads and never gets lost in the infinite wilderness. He also cleaned and checked our car every night. Charles worked hard and ensured us having the best experience. He is also an energetic and proactive person and it is fun to travel with him. Thanks to Shadows of Africa who gives us an unforgettable trip.

We witnessed the strong buffalo, the mighty elephant, the beautiful leopard, the sneaky rhino and the lion king. All thanks to Mwinyi Hamza, who has the eye of an eagle and knows these lands like the back of his hand. His hospitality, awareness and knowledge of the Serenghetti and Ngorongoro will make you feel like you did the best choice as the guide for this amazing experience. He will attend to your wishes and will make your trip worthwhile!
We had hopes of having someone who pays attention to details and would not be just our driver. And Mwinyi Hamza did just that and beyond. We leave the Safari experience with the feeling we had the most of it. We highly recommend him and hope to see him in a future expedition!

Fun’ ‘cool’ ‘sensational’ and ‘ life-affirming’

These words sum up our experience of the Meru Slopes tour we’ve just experienced but to be honest they go nowhere near describing just how incredible our 6 day trip with all the Meru team has been from start to finish.

Almachius was an absolute star in helping our family of four (2 adults, 13 and 14 year old) get the right mixture of practicalities, luxury and affordability. He was super responsive in helping us organise the best family holiday ever in the months, weeks, days ahead and last minute questions we had before we even boarded our flights (as well as helping me retrieve my lost kindle en route!).

We were met by the most friendly, welcoming and skilled driver to take us to our first night in Arusha (in what is essentially a very functional hotel and did what it needed to do!) before our adventure really began with THE most amazing guide/ driver/ animal spotting expert we could have wished for in Jacob.

Jacob expertly guided us through Tarangire National Park, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater - patiently waiting for the teenagers to take their insta shots and their amateur photographer father to get the perfect angle of zebras, elephants, giraffes and so many more of the wonderful animals the parks have to offer.

We spent the night at Fanaka lodges - comfortable beds, decent enough showers and a warm welcome. We spent most of the evening feasting on fabulous Tanzanian food cooked by our chef Johannes - his mum (and school) taught him everything he knew - his mum is obviously a fantastic teacher as he is a brilliant chef. All his food is delicious and his banana pancakes to start us on our trip to Serengeti were a real culinary highlight for the kids.

Jacob ensured we had an incredible time - his experience, knowledge and contacts with the other guides ensured that we had so many truly memorable experiences - getting up close and personal with a family of playing hyenas, a pair of chilling cheetah brothers and a sleeping lion were real highlights of day 1 in the Serengeti.

Whilst in Serengeti, we spent two nights at the Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp. We had toyed with the idea of camping but we are so pleased we stretched our budget to be able to enjoy this truly special accommodation. The rooms are huge, the en-suites are just as big with the choice of an indoor or outdoor shower and the welcome by the local band was just brilliant. So much fun! The beds were super comfortable and spacious. The food was great on both nights and the breakfast and packed lunch were ideal for our picnics with herds of wilder beast! All the staff, (including the Masai who were needed to take us to our room in case of any animals getting too close) were so friendly and more than happy to help with our requests for more pancakes (although the children still think Johannes’ banana pancakes are the best!)

Our second day exploring the Serengeti was equally as good as our first - Jacob took us out to see the migration of the ‘flowers of the Serengeti’ - once again giving us the opportunity to pretty much look the zebras and wilder beast in the eyes. This was complimented by expertly seeking out more prides of lions, baboons, elephants and giraffes and so many more animals, birds, flora and fauna.

Our final morning in the Serengeti was seeing nature in action. Jacob always made sure that we had the best spot to really see the detail of the animal and their interactions with each other - this was graphic at times (!) but fascinating all the time. A real highlight was watching the hippos rolling around and then seeing 3 crocodiles devour their earlier catch of the day (of a baby hippo!). Insane and intense and Jacob made sure we could see all the details!!

Throughout the safaris Jacob was happy to go at our pace, stop for the perfect photo and often using his expertise to frame these shots for us. Jacob had all the answers to any of our questions on animals and Tanzania.
We really benefited from his skill, expertise and local knowledge on our last day in Ngorongoro park (it was an early start following a night in a tent at the public campsite - our budget night was fun, surprisingly comfortable and expectedly chilly. Facilities were basic and functional. Food was prepped by Johannes so delicious as always!).

We were lucky to be one of the first in to the Ngorongoro crater to watch the animals and birds come to life including an early sighting of a rhino… we’re still not sure how Jacob spotted it skulking in the midst of the foliage but he did, we have the photos to prove it and it was truly special being able to share this moment as a family with Jacob. The rhino soon disappeared but as with the rest of our trip the memories of our time with Meru Tours will stay with us for a lifetime. Thanks to all the team especially Almechias, Johannes and a very special thank you to Jacob for our best family holiday ever.
