Last stop on our tour of Surabaya and unfortunately arrived late and had to be content with a walk around the perimeter to admire the magnificent building which sprawls across a large site. Probably best viewed from a distance to enjoy the sight of the large central blue dome and the four smaller domes surrounding it. The minaret towers 99m above in tribute to the 99 names of Allah. The building dates to 1995 and was completed and inaugurated in 2000 by President Wahid

I really enjoyed driving across the bridge both ways. It is an awesome structure and the dedicated scooter paths on each side are a great idea.

Had duck at a restaurant. Drove to a village called Kebanjar to get a view back to the bridge. Very primitive and lots of rubbish.

Entrance fees of 15,000. Understanding the various functions of the submarine. Went at 8pm and was humid although the aircon was on. Avoid day visit if possible.

Unusual monument depicting a crocodile and shark in a battle for supremacy and is symbolic of Surabaya's strength. The city is names after the Javanese words 'suro' and 'boyo' for shark and crocodile. Main interest of locals seemed to be the skate park adjacent.

Sunan Ampel Mosque is located at Jalan KH Mas Mansyur, Ampel Village, North Surabaya. This location is very easy to reach, because it is passed by various modes of transportation. This mosque became one of the must visit places for the pilgrims of the guardians, where on certain days, visitors can be very abundant. If you love religious tourism, then visit the Ampel Mosque should not be missed.

Galaxy mall is spread over 3 outlets. 1 and 2 are linked and 3 is across the road. It is a very spacious mall with high roofs. It gives a great feeling to be there. Mall 3 has many unoccupied places. Mall 2 has latest brands.

Bungkul park is located in the heart of Surabaya, the capital of eastern province of Java, Indonesia.
This park is small in size, but very neat, clean and very well taken care of.

They were kind enough to let me in 2 days before christmas, especially since I am not a Christian. I think politeness and goodwill takes you places as access can be really difficult during this period.

Anyway, it's one of the oldest Cathedral in Surabaya, with mozaic windows and high ceiling (probably renaissance paintings on it). I think it resembles those churches in Italy (obviously it's catholic church). Really beautiful to see.

But I personally think, church is not just about the worship and the prayers. It's the communal and services to their devotees, which I believe stands out. Beside the cathedral, I see conggregation building that supports local youth or other humanitarian efforts. This I believe is the true face of religion, putting forward its faith on humanity.
