Iconic world building, should be on everyone’s bucket list. Well maintained site free from the piles of rubbish and plastic which sadly adorn a lot of India including its historic buildings and surrounds.

The Red Fort was a great experience. From the outside there is a moat (without water now) and huge high walls. Inside some of the architecture of the buildings is amazing. The whole area is so well laid out.

The tomb sits on the bank of the Yamuna River. It's near the Taj Mahal; but, it's not walkable. (Ride bikes, or hire a taxi).

The complex and garden is a nice spot to sit riverside and escape the mania that's the Taj Mahal.

Beautiful palace but we went on a day it was extremely crowded. Be prepared to be jostled and walk thru some really narrow staircases. They try to push the elephant ride (about $30 / INR 2500) which you can use to go up the hill (about 10 min) but we decided to walk up the convenient pathways and large steps leading to the palace. Restrooms are well maintained but over crowding and long queues make it hard to navigate. Be prepared to be hustled by both guides and peddlers. We used our Hotel provided guide which was very useful as they guided us through both ticketing as well as the key locations. A must if you are going there for the first time.

WHEN I walked into one building at Jama Masjid I felt like I was on the set of some Hollywood blockbuster which had created a strange alien environment.
Carved beams criss-crossed overhead with unusual carved decorations beneath each intersection.
It was not the first surprise that a tour of Fatehpursikri would throw at me.
Jama Masjid is a 16th century mosque, one of the largest in India, and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The courtyard is gigantic, covering more than 230,000 sq ft.
Be warned. You have to take your shoes off to be allowed in, women must wear long gowns and men in shorts will be asked to wear a wrap which can be hired at the entrance.

We hired a tuk tuk driver to take us to the red fort, baby Taj and view point ( including waiting time for 2 adults ) for 500 rupees approx 5 hrs .We had a great time. This was my favourite part of the red fort as it had many little exquisite rooms , some with a view of the Taj Mahal .We even spotted a little bat above the door way.Be warned it is one of the busier places .We didn’t have a guide as we read up about the place beforehand and there were ample signs to indicate what u are looking at

The court of public hearings. Since this was dedicated to the general public, it is large in size, although lacks the grandeur. The arches of the ceilings are intricately carved and are pure works of art. The place is clean and well maintained too.

Better than New Delhi or Jaipur - this station is cleaner and has more character than the others. Our overnight train to Allahabad was only a little late getting in and I shared a four berth cabin with a holy man !

The Chai wallah arrived about 6:30am and I had a welcome cup of Masala Chai for breakfast.

Immediately to the rear of the Anguri Bagh gardens is the Khas Mahal (Armgah-i-Mualla). This elegant, pillared, white marble building, painted with floral motifs, was Shah Jahan's private palace and its beauty is a reflection of Shah Jahan's love of beautifult things. Overlooking the Yamuna River, it is not surprising that it has views of the Taj Mahal. The building stands on a white marble plinth underneath which there is a two-storey building. One of the rooms of this underground building contains a gallows on which offenders "of the harem's chastity" were executed. Entry to this underground complex is not permitted. On either side of the Khas Mahal there are two exquisite pavilions which were apparently used by Shah Jahan's daughters, Jahan-Ara and Roshan-Ara. A beautiful building on top of a dark secret.

Looking like it is made out of white marble while, actually, it is red brick covered with white plaster, the Golden Pavilion of Roshan Ara in Agra Fort is smaller than the other buildings around it but just as beautiful. It is not know what this building was actually used for but it is believed to have been used by Roshanara Begum, one of the daughters of Shah Jahan. It stands right on the edge of the wall of the fort and has a stunning view of the Taj Mahal.

Originally known as Akbar Darwaza and only used by the Mugal emperor Akbar and his personal followers, the gate was renamed Amar Singh Gate by Shah Jahan. Mainly plain in decoration, it's massive and you cannot help but feel dwarfed as you walk through it into Agra Fort.

Unfortunately, entry to the Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience) in the Agra Fort was not allowed on the day we were at the Fort. I have no idea of the reason for this but it was a shame because, if the interior of this building is as interesting and as beautiful as the exterior, then we missed out on seeing something magnificent.

Smaller than the buildings around it, the Roshan Ara Pavilion in Agra Fort is well worth seeking out. Looking like it is made out of white marble (actually it's redbrick covered with white plaster) and built on the very edge of the fort overlooking the Yamuna River, is the view of the Taj Mahal. What this building was used for is not really known but it is thought that it was the private quarters of one of Shah Jahan's daughters.

Set on the right of the Taj Mahal is the Mihman Khana, which is also known as the Mehmaan Khana. During the turn of the century between the 18th and 19th century, this building was used as a guest house for the visitors arriving for the anniversary celebrations of the death Mumtaz Mahal (before this building was erected, these visitors were housed in tents). As beautiful and interesting as the Mugal architecture is of this building, it was only erected to match, in every respect, the mosque on the left hand side of the Taj Mahal.
