- Gaia L1 contributionWonderful experience to see all the old textiles & hear some stories attached to them, it gives you an experience of time travel and to imagine how the old gypsies and village people used to live and the traditions attached to their clothing and textiles. The carpets and tapestries are so beautiful! Truly works of art. Would highly recommend to visit here, and perhaps find something special to take home. Behaviour of the brothers is very polite and friendly. He took the time to explain the background to each piece of art and we took away some lovely pieces that we have finally framed and put up in our home. Manish also went above and beyond when we bumped into him the next day, helping us to package and send gifts back home. I didn’t want to disturb him, but I was compelled to enter his studio because I felt the call of a mysterious nature. His voice was gentle and weary, indicating that he had been working hard for hours. As we moved through his workshop, he guided us through the most exquisite detail in his art. I was shaken by how unique and creative his work was. His art was executed with the most supreme grace, and his conduct revealed a calm gentleness that can only be earned through dedicated patience and toil.
In the proceeding days of my stay in Jaisalmer, I spent hours in his studio where he enlightened me with stories. I was struck when I realized the distinct lack of ego when it concerned his creations. He expressed himself effortlessly, and surrendered himself to Nature’s forces letting them work through him to put such beauty on the canvas. He was working on the most complex and intricate pieces with the intention of donating them to high spiritual beings. Any mention of capital exchange for his works would make him wince, for he would rather that you first spend time appreciating the art. What a noble person.
I would highly recommend anyone who values beauty and moral virtue to visit Kamal’s studio. He has a kind sensitivity that lends a peaceful energy to his space. - Frequenthoteluser101London, UK109 contributionsGreat shop, worth seeking out as it’s a little off the ‘main drag’. It’s not big but is packed with gorgeous textiles and all sorts of unusual items. Charming, knowledgeable staff.
I went a bit mad and bought far more than I had intended, suddenly realising there was no way I could take it with me on all the domestic flights I had booked within India. The owner, Mr Khatri said no matter - he would have it sent to my hotel at my final destination - Mumbai. The prices were fair. I paid in cash and had serious misgivings afterwards, worrying that I’d have no redress if the parcel never arrived…..
But my anxiety was entirely unnecessary - I was kept informed by Mr Khatri every step of the way - he sent me pictures of my parcel, tracking numbers and even let me know when the courier had delivered it to my hotel. And when I eventually arrived in Mumbai, there it was waiting for me, beautifully packed.
What service!
When I was in Jaisalmer I kept thinking I would see wider and better choices later in my trip, but I never saw such lovely, high quality work again in all my weeks of travel through India.

- Kate17 contributionsI am back in Jaisalmer, for the 2024/2025 season. It is my 3rd trip, and the Shayama Cashmere Store is just as wonderful as ever. Friendly and welcoming and such lovely variety of shawls, scarves, sweaters....and reasonable prices. - Robert HJaisalmer31 contributionsSourabh Goswami was certainly ahead of the posse when he located Golden Art and Frame Gallery at the entrance to Gadisar Lake - one of the most important and recently enhanced attractions for visitors to Jaisalmer, consisting of loads of traders and several coffee shops and restaurants.
This internationally recognised photographer's work highlights all aspects of Jaisalmer and surrounding village life. He has been chosen to feature in the National Geographic editor's choice and has had his work exhibited at the Spoleto Festival.
