Daniela and her mother made us feel very welcome and we had a fantastic time. We enjoyed learning more about the local area and the culinary specialties of Colombia as a whole, while visiting the local market and cooking lunch with them. The market tour was an unforgettable experience. We got to sample many different fruits and bought fresh ingredients for the lunch at home. We truly felt like family. Highly recommended and authentic experience.

Via. Cocina is more than a cooking class, it's the brain child of Brian Johnston who, after a career in international development, decided to set roots in Medellin, Columbia and start a profoundly important community project to integrate nutritious, affordable meals into the everyday lives of Colombians. When you go to Via Cocina, Brian brings you behind the scenes of his labor of love, the building which he rebuilt from the foundation and studs and the kitchen where he teaches locals and tourists to cook. You can feel Brian's vision when you survey the sustainable, full circle rooftop garden and classroom, which you will use in your cooking. The instruction was better than most cooking classes I have taken. I liked how Brian incorporated vegetables in a creative way, using non-local foods but to also demonstrate that the culture doesn't have a culture of eating vegetables. I've been traveling in SoAm for a month and even though I have tried some great local fruits, he shares some great fruits I had not encountered yet. After the class, Brian introduced us to some delicious local restaurants off the beaten path as well. I hope you'll pick Brian's cooking class over the standard fare when you come to Colombia.

This class was amazing. I love that it was in a home. It made the class feel even more authentic. And the empanadas were amazing!

Daniella and her mother were wonderful! I especially enjoyed walking through the markets. The fruits that I got to taste were not fruits I was familiar with and the food we prepared was great.

My friend and I did two different tours (on the same day) with Andres. We did this farm tour and a tour at a flower place in Santa Elena. It had just finished raining when we got to the farm so it was a bit soggy and we probably walked around a bit less than we may have otherwise. The flower tour was so much fun (and the downpour came literally right as we finished - perfect timing!) Andres is passionate about nature and protecting it and was willing to answer my many, many questions (Sometimes I can be like a 3 year old - why? why? why? haha)

10/10 this is THE coffee tour to choose between all the options near Medellín! Carlos Emilio and Marta Cecilia have poured love, passion, and hard work to create a unique and family-run coffee farm that is surrounded by mountain and valley views on all sides. The tour included everything you could want: a warm welcome and snack, coffee tasting, a tour of the farm (taking you through the entire life cycle of a coffee plant), a home cooked (DELICIOUS) lunch, and the opportunity to buy coffee straight from the source. In addition to Carlos Emilio’s passion shining through with every story, his desire to share and spark curiosity in others meant that the tour was largely customized. This your was not on a timer or strict schedule that makes you feel rushed. It felt more like visiting a family member and letting curiosity guide you. I thought I knew a lot about coffee before this tour, but I was gently shown that the detailed and nuanced world of coffee contains much more than I ever imagined. Additionally it was very easy to get there (I took the bus from Terminal del Sur by myself and it took about 1.5 hours) and the entire ride was full of views. And of course, the tasting included the best coffee I’ve ever had. A super high quality farm that is passionate about sharing their way of life.

We were in town just for a couple of days before flying to Cuzco and Contacted WayCooltours for their help.
Lina was such a wealth of information, like a personal concierge, she assisted me with wonderful insight.
This company is extremely well organized and they truly care about their clients a rare thing this days. She managed to close the coffee shop just for my brewing workshop class at Avoeden cafe. The tour was amazing I learned the whole coffee brewing process, using the different methods and machines, learned what was the difference in all the names. I feel like a coffee expert now and I highly recommend this tour agency, the guides and the Avoeden coffee shop.

This trip was a highlight of Medellin! It was held in a beautiful outdoor patio setting and was a lovely experience. Our guide and translator, Daniela, was fantastic! The barista, Kathe, was a fabulous teacher, very knowledgeable. The driver, Gustavo, was so friendly and kind. We also had the opportunity to talk with the owners of Medellin Travels, Alex and Linda. What a fantastic couple, so welcoming and kind. We gained a tremendous appreciation for Colombian coffee and a deeper understanding of how great coffee is brewed. We also made own latte, with wonderful guidance from Kathe. This was charming and delightful experience. We highly recommend this tour.
