Heavenly lake is the most popular attraction for those tourists who are Urumqi based. In fact it's not that far from the capital of Xinjiang. I have been there a few days ago and I was looking forward to writing my review here on Tripadvisor as this is the best place I have visited during my holiday in Xinjiang. Therefore I warmly recommend readers not to miss this scenic spot. It's very crowded though. However it's not a big issue as long as you are eager to walk all around the lake as I did. In order to complete the loop 4-5 hours are needed. All in all I have walked 14 kilometers for a total of nearly 24000 steps. The first half of the path went smoothly...the second part was definitely more grueling as I had to climb up to the top of three hills but it was definitely worth doing so as the view of the lake from the top is breathtaking. You can enjoy your hiking as there are no people around. The vast majority of visitors prefer taking the boat or the cableway to reach the top of Tianshan mountain. Those who prefer walking generally reach the nearby temple which is pretty close to the entrance. Don't forget bringing with you some bottles of water and some food as along the lake there are no restaurants or convenience stores.

We visited this park whilst walking to the Urumqi Museum. It is easiest reached by taking the BRT to the Nanhu East Road and Nanhu South Road stop, then walking south until the entrance is seen. A large stone with yellow inscriptions in Mandarin is at this entrance to the park, and behind it is a sculpture titled "The Loulan Girl" which seems more appropriate in Egypt than Urumqi. The obligatory security check will need to be passed through before entry to the park.

The first sight in the park is the huge Nanhu Lake. We visited quite a few parks in Urumqi, but this was our favourite. The lake was peaceful, and there were a few ducks and fish, mainly hiding in the bushes near to the lake. The walking paths were wide and led to many sculptures which were positioned throughout the park , My son and I had a great time strolling the park and trying to guess the title of the sculptures, which were in English and Mandarin. If you are a lover of art, and have time to spare, I would recommend a trip to this park.

It is great to find a huge green space that is so well maintained in the middle of a big city in China.

The car cannot go all the way in, so you have to walk a short distance to the lake itself. It's a good place to have a stopover and stretch your legs if you're in for a long car journey basically. The lake is not the most beautiful but it's still something to look at. The salt production factory was closed to the public - we heard it's only open in the summer.
