- Gina JEdinburgh, UK60 contributionsWe saw the show back in May. This is a traditional Sichuan show which as others have correctly noted is more of a variety show and not what those of west might expect of by way of an "opera". This is a traditional opera show with face changer, hand shadow, Chinese opera, music etc. We got vip tickets and had the neck massage beforehand but you can also get your ears cleaned which is fun to do when in Chengdu. The hand shadow performer was absolutely breathtaking and the opera singers were also amazing. We have such respect from the Opera singers and the costumes after getting dressed up ourselves. Cannot fault the staff who were totally excellent and helpful and offered a table service of green tea and snacks. Well worth a visit and we would happily watch the show again next time we are in Chengdu as it is such a fun thing to see.Written January 7, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SaemaRHong Kong, China109 contributionsA friend booked the show and we didn't really know what we singed up for until we went in. Firstly we had a chinese opera costume dress up and it was really fun pretending for a while; the actors also taught us some poses for the pictures (very much recommended). The show after that was spectacular and really enjoyed it as it was also the first time for me. I would really recommend a visit to the chinese opera houseWritten July 5, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KM LeeSingapore213 contributionsRather than a full length opera, this performance highlights various aspects of Sichuan performing art. There is the obligatory operatic skit and the various acrobatic stunts culminating in the face-change performance.
A nicely packaged program, although the compere could have made a better attempt to give an English introduction to the events about to unfold. Mine just mumbled her way through.
If possible, come earlier and walk around the surroundings which feature period architecture.Written December 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
