What travelers are saying
- Matthew E6 contributionsLots of information about how the brewery was founded, which is fascinating, and of course there was beer with the visit (always fantastic). Much of the information was in English which I appreciated though there’s no English audio tour. You should definitely take a look if you’re in QingdaoWritten February 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Matthew E6 contributionsA full on splurge about Qingdao’s fascinating 100 year history told in a very pretty stately home. The audio guide in English works well, though there’s a bit too much about the furniture for my liking and not enough about the governance - weirdly, the history of the sewer system was a real highlight. This will give you a great background to Qingdao and I reckon you should visit it early in your stayWritten February 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Soko37Budapest, Hungary4,537 contributionsWe were passing Museum on the way to Small Qingdao Island 🌴. It was closed and reconstruction ongoing or finalising new main building. Boats 🚤, submarines, airplanes ✈️ and many army artefacts outside and inside. For adults and small boys to enjoy 😉 naval military sideWritten March 7, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Klaus1234Innsbruck72 contributionsSituated outside of QD, the museum is reachable by public transportation. But it takes a good while to get there.
The architecture of this museum is that for the New China typical gigantism style: not very welcoming.
On the other hand, the artifacts are well displayed, the visitors are well guided through the ages and epochs.
I visited it twice. In the meantime, I saw a lot more museums in China - with more exciting architecture (i.e. NIngbo!)Written October 11, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. That being said it was great to be able to walk in the two naval ships parked there. Great view of the harbor as well.Written April 14, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Barry LNew Orleans, LA37 contributionsIf you've been to Beijing and Shanghai, you're probably familiar with their respective urban planning museums. This one in Qingdao is quite new and possibly more impressive than its counterparts in Beijing and Shanghai. In the middle of the museum is the biggest 3D model of a city I've ever seen. In many ways, this museum explains modern Qingdao better than the Qingdao Museum. I would combine the two, using the Qingdao Museum as a guide to everything up to the German occupation and using this Qingdao Urban Planning Museum to explore recent history and the future of this seaside city. The museum is free but is mostly in Chinese with little English. However the excellent 15 minute short film they show does have English subtitles.Written June 22, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MattwalesNorthWalesChengdu, China2,163 contributionsThis temple, I guess is no longer consecrated due to the fact that photos are allowed throughout, and there are no visible monks, makes a nice backdrop to what is effectively a cheap arts and crafts market. No entry fee but worth a quick look if you are passing .Written March 5, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tanyujieIsland of Hawaii, HI94 contributionsThis place gave me the creeps. I came in the morning and was the first tourist to enter the museum. I'd agree with the previous reviews that this is NOT the place for the faint hearted as they did display some black and white photos of German soldiers beheading Chinese criminals. And, unfortunately there is very little in English.
Going through the prison is what gave me the heebeejeebees. I'd walk in the prison. No one else was in the building and no one else came in with me. Silence. Then, all of the sudden these "people" (wax figures) appear out of no where!
Going through the dungeon also gave me the creeps as the Japanese invented "water boarding" as a form of torcher. Also the death chambers are located on the same floor.
It was free when I visited.Written January 29, 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The museum is well done and offers a range of information in both English and Chinese (something that should not be taken for granted in China). You can learn about the history of different wines including the growth of the wine industry in China. We were encouraged to visit thriving vineyards in other parts of Shandong Province and to find out more about Chinese wine. The tasting session at the end was sadly limited to the museums own wine (which was at best drinkable). It would have been fun to be taught how to sample wine properly but I guess this is China, not the French Loire Valley! The beer museum is a short walk away and also worth a trip.Written October 2, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - historickiterBristol, UK20 contributionsInteresting place....whether the bricks provide illustrations of life 2000 years ago, or whether they are the last notes on the condemned. Two amazing exhibits made it for me...the feather man leading the dragon (I recommend reading about the feather men first) and then the unique stone fish gong. Interesting, too, to see the professionals making paper stone rubbings and then the chance to do it myself with a dragon end tile. The Anhui paper for my rubbing was a bit thin and cracked when it dried out so if you are serious about trying this I suggest you take a slightly heavier grade paper....it is set up for the children but even oldies can do it! Oh, and free entry for the over 60s (take your passport).Written May 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
