This is one of the best organized and operated tours I have ever been on. It was our first time in Cambodia and I am so thankful for Asean Angkor Guide. After booking through Viator, I was contacted by Raksa, the operation manager. He offered to talk through WhatsApp, which is much easier than through Viator's app. Raksa was very responsive, replying to all of my questions in a timely manner with lots of photos and suggestions. As this was a private tour, I was allowed to rearrange the schedule as needed, and even add additional sites.
The first day of our tour we met David, our guide, and Mr. Handsome, the driver, at our hotel at 4am. Despite the early hour, they were both energetic and excited to start the day and maintained their enthusiasm throughout the tour. David is very knowledgeable of Khmer history and culture. He was able to answer any and all of our questions clearly and thoroughly, all in English. While modest about his English skills, he is fluent - there was never a misunderstanding or lapse in conversation. David also offered to take photos for us and they were all beautifully shot. We are thankful for Mr. Handsome's safe driving and care during our tour as well. He stayed with the car, allowing us to leave our bags and lighten our load, and provided us with cool towels and fresh water at each stop. Mr. Handsome also has very good English skills; my husband and I enjoyed talking with him and David on the drive between our stops.
The historical sights in Siem Reap are a wonder, and our trip was that much better in the comfort of a private car and guided at our own pace. The tour can be as relaxed or adventurous as you want; David and Mr. Handsome were very accommodating. I was traveling with my husband, but I would be very comfortable and safe with them if I were traveling alone as a woman.
Lastly, part of our booking fee goes towards charity - purchasing school books, supplies, and water for children in their community. I would have happily donated more had I known this at the time of booking. David also recommended to us the Made in Cambodia market, where all vendors are from rural Cambodia, all items are made by Cambodian people, all of the packaging is recyclable, and they do not pester you to purchase their items. We did all of our souvenir shopping here and we were happy to meet the artist and craftsmen who made our gifts.
I cannot recommend this tour enough. Thank you to Raksa, David, and Mr. Handsome for a wonderful time in Siem Reap.
