At Christmastime, I was spending some time in the Truskavets area. I hired Lviv Ecotour for a day tour of some Galician historical sites.
Sophia promptly replied, patiently answered all my questions and we quickly had everything arranged.
Oleh arrived early in the morning - right on schedule.
First we headed to the Dobromyl region near the Polish border. Herburt Castle is not a well-known historical site. There are few signs but it was not difficult to find.
From the peaceful village of Ternava, we took a short walk up a little hill to the 16th century castle ruins. The views of the surrounding fields along the way are spectacular. The unspoilt ruins are interesting to explore and were easily visible without the summer undergrowth to obstruct the views. Many trees and some scrub have taken up residence in the castle.
It would be worth further exploring the hills and village or just hiking along some trails, if time allows. The area is refreshingly tranquil.
In the afternoon we were near Ivano-Frankivsk. First a visit to the Halych castle ruins, then the Halych history museum in Krylos. I did not know much about the Galician history, so Oleh suggested the visit to Krylos. The museum building is closed but the grounds are open and there are a few information boards worth reading. The kurgan and 12 century Cathedral of the Assumption were interesting.
Unfortunately the day had nearly slipped away by this time...
A lot of distance was covered that day but it was a short pleasant time. I would not hesitate to take Oleh as my guide in the future. I look forward to some Carpathian hiking and wildlife watching in the springtime.
In conclusion, I enthusiastically recommend Lviv Ecotour!
