During the 1 hour F&E time we ventured into the premise which definitely looks imposing. Facing the main street is the western facade of the palace which also includes the main entrance. Beautiful arcades and arches supported by lovely carved pillars and capitals embellish the front facade. We walked past benches of elderly locals sitting there simply rest, chatting. Dubrovnik’s 15-century Gothic-Renaissance–style Rector's Palace (Knezev Dvor) is the most impressive bldg of great historic & artistic value and is home to the Rector’s office and chambers. There are also other Halls, courtrooms and even a former dungeon. Yes a jail then we peeped into!
The splendid bldg has survived explosions & earthquakes over the years. The atrium is a spacious, with columns, galleries & beautiful Baroque staircase. However the staircase were all blocked so we have no access upstairs.
The building was once upon a time the supreme political institution, its now house the Cultural-historic Department of the Dubrovnik Museum. We viewed the small exhibition halls' display and that's a souvenir shop too.
Do not miss this!
