- OZS_ATWBudapest, Hungary4,051 contributionsHouse of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia looks pretty impressive, however it is not such a big scale. The surrounding area is also very well maintained.Written September 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - msa23_2000Chino Hills, CA1,492 contributionsThe story and history is interesting, but you can only stand on the sidewalk. We walked onto the plaza area where the fountain is and the police told us to move. It is really run down and does not serve the same purposes it was built for. Worth a drive by if you have time, but if you miss it, you'll be OK.Written July 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OZS_ATWBudapest, Hungary4,051 contributionsThe Palace of Serbia is the largest (65,000 square meters) and most spectacular masterpiece of modernist architecture in Belgrade, and one of the first buildings to be constructed in the Novi Beograd district.
Built as the palace of the Federal Executive council of Yugoslavia, it is now home to several ministries and offices of the Serbian government.
Construction started 1949 and finished in 1959. The building was constructed in the mixed stripped down classicist (the main structure) and modernist (the glass domed great hall with front entrance) architectural styles.
Common misconception about the building, due to lack of such buildings in Belgrade in general, is that it is an example of Socialist Realism/Stalinist style in architecture. While it is the most monumental building of the early socialist period, unfamiliar with Soviet construction of the time, yet familiar with the term used for it, come to this obviously erroneous conclusion.Written October 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
