What travelers are saying
- Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsThis statue had been moved in the past but now it is located in the center of the city, the main square. Ban Josip Jelacic is an important symbol for Croatia, so I think it is worth a visit to his statue. Since it is located at the heart, most of the attractions are nearby.Written May 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - huskertravelersOmaha, NE1,091 contributionsA very beautiful monument right outside the Cathedral of Saint Mary. - Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsLocated in front of the National Theatre. It is a small statue and It doesn't grab attention until knowing the story behind. There is more to it but in a nutshell the statue symbolizes life, youth and beauty.Written May 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anna GKatowice, Poland49 contributionsThe museum has really nice and helpful staff. You can see that they are interested in what they do. The place is not spectacular, but definitely worth seeing. - Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsThe statue is in a park which is in front of the main station of Zagreb, if you come by train, the statue welcome you. I think for that reason, there are lots of weird people around.Written May 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,859 contributionsWe were walking down Tkalciceva St looking to get up to the next street to try and find the Stone gate and came across the lovely statue of Marija Juric Zagorka. I did a bit of searching when I got home from holidays and found out the she was the first female journalist in Croatia and has a large body of writing to her name. I just thought it was a lovely statue in a nice little garden off the street we were walking down. Good to stop and have a quick look and getting a photo.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,859 contributionsI actually thought this statue was part of the Cevapi restaurant by the top of the stairs as their was a sign just beside it.
The statue is at the top of the stairs just at the entrance of the market. Its a marker to the entrance of the most famous market in Zagreb.
Its a must do selfie when going to the market.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So many other statues are nice, but very sedate (just there). It was created in the mid1800s and is easy to find in Marshal Tito Square----and, of course, Free!Written April 2, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,859 contributionsWhen visiting the Dolac market, I saw this statue and wondered what it was about. In doing a bit of research when home after the holidays, I found out that he was a prophet and social commentator of the time. He was renowned for wearing jesters and traditional peasant clothing. He seen playing a mandolin all the while wearing a noose around his neck while it looks like the people around him are dying. Its a thought provoking statue that I spent a while looking at to try and figure out what was going on. A good statue up the back of the market well worth a look at.Written July 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,859 contributionsWe found this lovely silver Chappy sitting on a bench near the end of Strossmayer promenade just up from the love rails. Its not often you see a statue made of aluminum. Antun was a poet, journalist and writer and considered to be one a prominent figure for Croatian modernist literature. He is sitting cross legged on a bench and you can sit next to and have a photo with him. I liked him and thought he was a fun character. You also get nice views of Lower Zagreb town from here.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,859 contributionsWe were walking back the hotel we were staying at and on the way, we walked past this statue. I wasn't sure who or what this statue was or the history of the man. He was apparently a politician who founded the Peasant party in 1905 forming the peasants into a political force.
I just thought it was a statue of a large jolly looking fellow.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I wasn't sure what this was about but guessed it was a holocaust memorial due to the suitcases. Its a powerful image.
This memorial was due to the fact of the deportation of Jews to Auschwitz from Zagreb. The train locomotive nearby is part of the memorial and most likely represents the train that took the victims to the camp.Written July 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The statue was visually striking with a nice base and regal looking statue of Petar on a column. In researching who he was, he was a jack of all trades, a poet, writer and military general of the Austrian empire. Worth a look when you are walking through the square. It was hard to get near it when we visited as their was a lot of school children having their lunch by it so we couldn't get to close.Written August 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsI am sure it is very meaningful because Marko Marulic's contribution to literature and philosophy but I don't think it is a very significant location for tourists unless you are a fan of him. If you are passing by, I would suggest a visit. The monument is located on the south west of the city, in the parks.Written May 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
