- Sarah_Luis_12Ljubljana, Slovenia2 contributionsThis charming area of Zagreb, one of its 17 districts, is full of amazing buildings and picturesque scenery. With just a day and a half, you can enjoy both the Upper and Lower Towns, which offer numerous museums and historical monuments.Written September 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - iowacityiaiowa city, ia2,694 contributionsWe stopped by 3 times while visiting Zagreb. Once on our own, once on a walking tour, and once on a biking tour. It is a beautiful church. Gates up to prevent people from getting close. Apparently the gates have been up for quite a while. It is well worth the hike, or bike, to see the church.Written October 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsThe main square of Zagreb, located just at the center of the city. There is a statue and a couple of fountains, other than that, I don't think there is something major in the square, but it is the main square. You can reach cafes, restaurants, bars, museums from this square.Written May 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ron SNew York City, NY5,930 contributionsThe structure is impressive but belltowers are fully covered with scaffolds and the cathedral is closed for renovation so tourists are not allowed inside.Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsZagreb is a small city but the cemetery is far away from the center. I would suggest visiting the cemetery only if you have extra time in the city. The distance is walkable but there should be public transport too. There are interesting tombstones and the architecture of the buildings is remarkable.Written May 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Louise MCastle Rock, CO3,930 contributionsReally interesting historically. We only walked through a short section of it, but plan on exploring it a little more another day. Of the part we saw I noticed that it smelled a bit like a wine cellar, so was wondering if it may have been used as such at one time. Someone was singing somewhere inside the tunnel when we were there, and it was hauntingly beautiful with amazing acoustics.Written October 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Louise MCastle Rock, CO3,930 contributionsThis is a relatively short ride down (or up) town. It was part of our museum pass, so we used it even though we could have walked. I'll appreciate it a lot more on the days we are riding it up!Written October 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ron SNew York City, NY5,930 contributionsCroatian National Theatre is a great imposing building in the middle of a large square. The architectural style of Zagreb's old town is the Imperial Austro-Hungarian style and the town reminds Vienna very much of course. The theater fits the environment perfectly. We haven't been inside though. Some 200 feet in front of the front of the building there's an interesting statue/fountain by Ivan Mestrovic.Written September 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,859 contributionsThe lower town of Zagreb is commonly called the city center by the locals. It is located under the upper town which is on the hill.
The lower town encompasses from around Ban Josip square down to the Zagreb main train station. This is just a general idea for us tourists. You would need to look at actual maps for this as I think Zagreb is made up of 17 districts.
This has a lot to see in it. There are some good tourist maps available which show you what there is to see in this area. All up, i think you only need a day and a half to see both the lower and upper town sites and can comfortable cover most of the top items in this timeframe.Written July 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Perpas beter to take the cable car up. Its an old defence tower. You could even climb to the top, we didn't. Every day at noon they shoot the canon (incredible loud) to synchronize the bell towers down in the city.Written September 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ron SNew York City, NY5,930 contributionsThe gates is on the way from Jelacic Square to St Marko church. It's a double gate making a 90-degree turn with a chapel inside with benches for prayers who are often present so be respectful.Written September 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jason SMelbourne, Australia2,181 contributionsLarge public square in the lower town near train station and tram hub.
Some nice greenery to park area and places to sit down and relax and have a coffee.
Not much more to do or see so wouldn’t say it’s a must see square.Written August 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Along main road lots of good shops and restaurants to enjoy.
My hotel not far from street so spent a bit off time walking up and down and enjoying the atmosphere.Written August 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Ban Josip Jelacic is an important symbol for Croatia, so I think it is worth a visit to his statue. Since it is located at the heart, most of the attractions are nearby.Written May 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
