Both Mari’s home and shop are like museums – beautiful art and craft in a wide variety of media, from all over Peru.
The best collection of wares from around the country in one, wonderful, eclectic collection.

if you are staying in the area of Miraflores (which is highly recommended!), the Indian Market (Mercados Incas) is the perfect place to buy souvenirs and gifts.
The market offered a great selection of Peruvian products and I finished my souvenir shopping in Lima in > 30 minutes!

We quickly exchanged a few emails with Ximena, who speaks great English, and scheduled a visit to their Lima shop.
When we walked into the store, the two women overseeing the shop were quick to welcome us and explain the different materials, sources, and histories behind the different pieces on display.

A wide variety of Peruvian crafts can be found here - beautiful sweaters and blankets from alpaca wool, silver jewelry - modern styles or with Peruvian themes, backpacks, totes, purses.
I usually visit this market to get souvenirs fro friends who live abroad or when I want an Alpaca sweater or a fine scarf.

The vendors are more focused on the fruits and vegetables of the region--as well as the local seafood products.
Different sections of the market have different vendors selling the same things grouped together.

We have been in Peru for about 4 weeks now, and have grown a little weary of shops carrying duplicates of the same items: shawls, sweaters, bags and very similar paintings.
This place is part museum, part shop, and all gorgeous.

So, we went to our favorite bookstore and found a great group of what they might want to read.
Plus a small coffee shop with pastries.

From the outside, the market looks like your regular crowded local shopping area – when you start seeing burgers selling exotic game meat like snakes, crocodiles on the sidewalk that you know you are near the market.
All aspects of clothing manufacture purchasing is here from raw material, appliques, sewing, decal and the end product are here mixed in with spice stores, witch doctors, herbs for religious purposes.
