- pfefmeisterSan Francisco, CA4,393 contributionsWe thought this to be the best store to shop for Ecuador handicrafts. They have a large selection with not too expensive prices. I ended up getting my Panama hat here, good quality for $80, after comparing at other stores. My wife also filled out her suitcase with more souvenirs. Maybe 4 blocks from Plaza Foch down Moreno towards Old Town.Written February 5, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 4grlsmomPewaukee, WI324 contributionsThis compact market has hundreds of small craft stalls arranged in rows, with fair prices which are negotiable, as always. Souvenirs and artisanal crafts include shirts, blankets, scarves, jewelry, dolls, soccer jerseys, hats and all the usual things you see, but this is a really convenient set-up. For example, a Panama hat was offered at $10 and quickly dropped to $8 (these same hats were going for $100 in Puerto Rico!) A colorful table runner was $5. There was always security present, and the market is open-air but covered, so it's fine in the rain. Sales were in cash. We walked from our hotel in the New Town on one visit, but the streets, while safe, weren't all that busy, a cab might be wiser. Definitely worth the trip, better than what we found at vendors in the Old Town, and other areas frequented by tourists. This market is also included as a stop on the Quito hop on hop off bus tour.Written March 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy S18 contributionsWe loved this chocolate tasting right in the middle of Quito! We sat at a table with chocolate to drink, and learned about what makes Yumbos so special. We tasted so many flavors of chocolate, each with an introduction. This was educational
and fun! We throughly enjoyed this tasting and then got to shop for our favorites! I sure wish I had brought back more!Written November 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hana M10 contributionsNot only is the collection of art awesome, but the service is phenomenal. Alvaro, the owner, went above and beyond in helping us.
We had stopped in the shop while we were in Quito and fell in love with Eduardo Vega's work. We had 2 weeks of travel ahead of us so Alvaro allowed me to hold my pieces in the shop after I'd bought them- I returned to pick them up on my way out of the country. He also offered international shipping to my friend, and sent out the art the next day.
All the ceramic pieces were packed so well that they made it back to the US and Canada in perfect condition.
Very happy we had a chance to visit this gallery. My new vases are so beautiful and serve as a perfect reminder of my awesome trip :)

The wool clothing was especially nice.
The cafe next door was very good. And the bakery directly across the square offered delicious pastries with upstairs seating looking out at the church.Written May 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - m s40 contributionsGreat place to haggle prices and get hounded by vendors wanting your business. Fresh produce and meats. As soon as we parked we were warned about people stealing vehicle emblems off cars. Did not make it enticing to enter.Written August 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KD2905414 contributionsLearn how the cacao bean in Ecuador is harvested and made into the highest quality chocolate- and get to taste samples of all the varieties along the way! This is a small family owned shop but the "tour" is very comprehensive and interesting. And there are lots of samples! Location is about a block or two from the basilica- make it a stop on the way in or out- it's really interesting.Written May 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
