This was a very interesting museum, complete with ancient artifacts and essential details of pre-Columbian history. Unfortunately the Museum informed us that the second floor (which houses most of the main collections) was closed during our visit - only after we had paid admission.

Fine arts museum—historical and beautiful building connected next to the contemporary arts museum. Free admission. Way to small..figure less than an hour.
I found all of the museums free, but needing more art!

Not sure how we found this gem but we were pleasantly surprised. The museum is pretty, quiet and well laid out. The art work was very interesting, surprisingly so. A definite plus visit.

While roaming the streets of Barrio Lastarria we happened upon the very snazz-ii big spaced art gallery. It’s a multi-floored impressive-lii designed building lots of glass and open space. The modern art on displayed is fantastic even if you’re not an art fundii you are able to decide for yourself, many of the large pieces on displayed at the time of our visit was the five-panel work it could be hung together as one or as five pieces with some space in between. And again entree here is free of charge but they do have a collection box where the voluntary donations can be lodged and as they acknowledge that they real-lii appreciated any donation…….

    Contemporary arts museum—
Beautiful and historical building next to fine arts museum.
Lotsa of graffiti (not part of the exhibit!). I enjoyed both art inside as well as graffiti.
Way too small and less than 30 minutes. Free admission.

The mansion, in the Republica neighbourhod, was built by a Belgian businessman. It has since been the Spanish Embassy, part of the university of Chile, the centre for telephone surveillance during the dictatorship and now this museum. It is a beautiful setting for this collection.
Only a small part of the 2800 item collection is displayed. Many prominent South American artists and others have donated works. When we were there, the emphasis was on textile art. We spent a lovely hour there.

Unfortunately, the Palace de La Alhambra is still undergoing renovations and looks like it might still be some time before it re-opens.

The staff spends time giggling amongst themselves and not helpful. And very limited exhibits. Your time spent is well spent elsewhere.
