It would be silly to expect - and compare - a place like Valdivia's botanic garden to stack up against those of much larger cities, so don't!
But it is worth a 30-minute wander around this nice, small park on the university campus. Huge trees, nice, groomed paths, and a very friendly dog.
    Free, peaceful, calming...I'd go back!

We had such wonderful weather in May, unusual so we took the day to visit Corral and the coast. Fantastic views.

The drive out here is nice. The location is picturesque. The "gate-keeper" (Jorge?) is a kind, welcoming man.
Then you actually enter the park! Birds, (big) trees, flowers, bees, and much more, it's definitely worth making it out to Curinanco.
Get outside of the city and enjoy this swath of coastal rainforest.

This is a lovely, very green, island that near the top has the ruins of a Spanish fort. One can see still the outline (and a bit more) of the church and other buildings. There was only a wall on the side of the island, and that wall is pretty well preserved. The wall with the tall trees behind it, makes a pittoresque sight. Most of the fort overlooks the entrance from the ocean, and one has great views over this stretch of sea. During the holidays at least (February) there is a regular ferry from Niebla to the island, taking about 15 minutes, and leaving about every 20 minutes.

Enjoyed walking along the river and over the bridge. Saw sea lions basking in the sun, Lapwings, Grebes, Ibis, and Chimango Cara Cara birds.

This hike is FREE and is very well organised.

It takes between 30-40 minutes to complete (15-20 minutes each way).

The walk itself is beautiful and you will be surrounded by some of the most magnificent trees you'll get to see in this part of the world.

Arboretum is a footpath that is very close to Parque Saval, in Teja Island. this natural reserve is the greatest reserve of arboreal species of Chile, if you go there be aware of wearing trekking shoes and waterproof clothes. it is totally free to go there, you only need to have respect of the flora and fauna of this natural reserve.
