- Angela V3 contributionsThe journey through the cave offers an exhilarating mix of hiking, climbing, and sometimes even wading through cool streams, making it an unforgettable experience. The cool, damp air and the soft sounds of dripping water create a mystical atmosphere that adds to the cave's allure.Written October 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Elmo BManila, Philippines1,584 contributionsBoth a heritage and adventure visit. A must experience for cultural understanding of how our ancestors live. - Prem M2 contributionsIt’s about 40 minutes from Tuguegarao. Worth the drive. We were greeted by the guide and showed us the different chambers of the cave. Hope the department of tourism could be more involved in preserving and protecting this wonder so the future generations can enjoy the its beauty.Written November 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Elric G6 contributionsThis is the second stop of our Island Hopping Tour (Jan, 2024).
I love rock formations so I appreciated the view inside the cave. Added bonus of watching bats sleep.
Notes:
1. the cave is small so after walking for a bit, there is not much else to explore.
2. some parts of the walls have been vandalized (etched names, etc). Not sure why people are so stupid to ruin such a beautiful place.
3. The adjacent Puting Buhangin beach is closed to the public (which we didn’t know when we booked the tour, I thought we would be able to stay there as well).
4. The other side of the cave (opposite Puting Buhangin) is where you can swim and leads to another smaller stretch of beach (which I think is open to the public) where some boats would park. Our boat didn’t park on that side though so we didn’t get to swim on the way to the cave.Written February 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Vicky D10 contributionsWe have the cave all to ourselves and the tour guide was very accommodating and knowledgeable. It wasn't as good as the underground river in Palawan but it was a unique experience nonetheless. My daughter was looking forward for the bats but I guess they were all tired and hibernating. Some of the rock formation were captivating as well as the crystals. It was also naturally cool/ventilated inside (I was surprised), thought it would be very hot and cramp. It was a good experience, only downside was it was raining when we came out of the cave and can not see the Mayon volcano on the horizon. Would have been really perfect if it wasn't.Written November 19, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- irenevffDasmarinas City, Philippines5,885 contributionsthis cave was not in our itinerary but since it's proximal to daranak falls, we took a quick turn to visit before we headed to pililia.
it was a welcome surprise! calinawan cave is something to marvel at. it used to be a hush-hush location for old movies and TV shows that needed an underground setting. our tour guide took very good fotos of us while explaining each facet of the rock formations inside as well as the history of the place. our helmets served their purpose.
it was humid inside but the inconvenience was worth it. for 30 minutes, we explored up to the 2nd out of the 5 sections of the cavern. we would have gone deeper but due to time constraints, we opted to head to the exit.

The guide uses the beam to show you the half side of the lying image of the body of Christ .The beam also shows a half image of a skull Another shows the the Virgin Mary carrying the baby Jesus. There are other formations he calls the Apostles. There is also a wishing well, a dried pool and "bell" that when hit hard by your hand produces a ding-dong sound of an ancient bell---if you would imagine it as sound from a bell.
During my recent visit there was a group of touch healers who came to draw some "powers" from the mystical cave. They regularly use the cave to pray, according to Lito, my guide. My advice is take the Marcos highway access if you have your own car. Upon reaching the boundary of barrio San Luis turn right to a rough road and in less than five kilometers you are at the foot of a pathway going to the cave entrance. Do not use the Antipolo City access because of the steep downhill and uphill road that traverses through a private subdivision. If you commute, motorcab fare from the highway is 40 pesos per head. From the cathedral it's P150 per trip. There are trips going back to the highway.Written December 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Although, I have been over rougher trails. They have horses that you can ride a short loop around near the cave formations. They have some pay as you go bathrooms and no-fee ones as well. It was nice to get out look at the area and stretch the legs. The weather definitely could have been nicer. It rained pretty hard as we prepared to leave the area.Written December 31, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - itravelandlearnBaguio, Philippines51 contributionsTrudging up Mt. Timbak is a great experience but seeing the fire mummies adds to the greatness of the hike. The "caves" where you can find the mummies is a 20-min walk (depending on your pace) or 5-min ride from the base of Mt. Timbak. From the road, there's stairs going down, but registration is a must and a tour guide. Why? because the guide is your key to the mummies, without him/her, its impossible to see the mummies because the caves are locked. The first time I was there, guides are free and you don't need to pay anything. The last time I visited the place, the caves are closed and not accessible to public yet because they've been doing some kind of "renovation" to the area or rather they're protecting the mummies from becoming "dust". Anyway, seeing the mummies with visible tattoos is really the most interesting part because they're just extraordinary.Written September 14, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Menchie MManila, Philippines12 contributionsCaves can be scary - dark, wet, with bats, surprised... But this one is easy but can be difficult depending on how far you want to go - as a beginner, intermediate or advanced. Be prepared to get wet, the mini waterfall inside the cave is so delightful and inviting. The guide will make sure you are safe and understand our role in protecting this wonderFul secret of Cavinti. A real bonus is the refreshing bathe on the river and free natural massage from the current.Written October 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
