Obviously you can't avoid visiting here if you visit Kyoto, unless you somehow use another station or simply change trains here.
The main area to see is the large hall at the 'front' (north) of the station, which is very impressive. It is easily missed depending on which line you use at the station and which exit/entrance you use.
The station has many shops and cafes/restaurants, so plenty of chances for shopping or eating.

This outlet mall is situated just in front of shinkansen station and very accesible. The mall is very huge with many brand stores selling outlet items. The price is very reasonable for some brands. Sports wears such as Addidas and New Balance are worth buying if you can find your size.
The mall is full of people despite pandemic and people can spend hours for shopping in this place.

Roppongi Hills is a fabulous place for window shopping and it also has Tokyo City View, a great observation deck from which you can view the city.

Plenty of high end shops in Roppongi Hills but the best is surely the gorgeous dog hotel with on-site grooming area. A pet lover’s paradise.

Good little shopping centre near Disneyland

We had a nice dinner at the Thai restaurant, lovely food and excellent service

There was just a line up to eat at all outlets - 30-60 minutes both nights

The second night we decided not to go rush hour but it was still 4mins at 9pm

This shopping mall is right at the bottom of Tokyo Sky Tree. It has an aquarium and museum inside, also have a lot of restaurant. The food court in the middle of the mall is nice as well.

Took a little walk before dinner at Union Square. Many high-end stores and good supermarket in the basement. Also like to speciality store that sell sauce and hot pot broth base in B1. Nice place to walk around and have a meal. But not cheap at all!

Massive shopping centre with a big robot. Hard to beat. Oh, lets only 63 characters so here is some filler.

Pretty new outlet near Tokyo with all the usual attractions of a designer outlet. Best way is via direct bus service or by car ( if you drive ). The trip is about 4 hrs plus including the jam at carpark area. As outlet is new the crowds are overwhelming. Most areas are packed to the hilt when we are there & it’s not even the weekends. Food choices aplenty but tables are often packed. If you find the place too crowded I would recommend you drop in at other super stores within the vicinity.

The 1Umihotaru is a mid-way stopping point on the Aqua Line. It provides some nice panaramic view of the Tokyo Bay.

A great place to wander around, whether or not you're catching a train (I was!).

Many great views of Osaka city, particularly at night. A photographer's delight. Possibly the longest escalators in the world!

One of the best railway stations I have ever visited. Five star for train enthusiasts!

    Lovely fish
    Friendly bus driver
    Nice and cheap Sushi bar
    Huge shops

Em.. the only I want to complaint was the complicated tax refund policy.

Nakano Broadway is snapshot of Tokyo before the bubble.
Mandrake has multiple storefronts in the building specializing in the resale of pop culture collectibles, but along the edges an in the corners, you can see smaller businesses ranging from purveyors of doll parts to snack bars to shuttered spaces from back when having enough money

This is an entire mall dedicated to designer cosmetics, jewelry, purses and shoes. It is connected to the monorail for easy access. Fun to walk through.
