The Memorial of the Nanjing Massacre
#1 of 158 Sights & Landmarks in Nanjing
This site is absolutely brilliantly layout, and is a fantastic memorial, to remind people of the horrors of war.
The Memorial and museum present excellent and balanced views of the massacre and what we in the west call World War II.

Sun Yatsen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling)
#2 of 158 Sights & Landmarks in Nanjing
The site itself is pretty good with a set of steps that once you reach the top gives you a good overview of Nanjing and you can also see the history behind the mausoleum itself and the famous Sun Yat Sen.
Situated on the side of Purple Mountain, the Mausoleum is the perfect vantage point to see views of the city.

Confucian Temple Area (Fuzi Miao)
#8 of 158 Sights & Landmarks in Nanjing
This area has a great historical atmosphere with lots of interesting sights and shops selling nic nac's, including mobiles, precious stones and selfie sticks.
Chinese traditional music was playing and adding to the grand sites all around, the river / canal flowing next to it was very clean, and beautifully lit up with just the right amount of light (not glaring)!

Sun Yat-sen Memorial of Nanjing
#9 of 158 Sights & Landmarks in Nanjing
The memorial itself is great, the history is palpable and the climb is worth it for the views.
Turn around and take in the view before proceeding into the tomb.

Zhonghua Gate (Zhonghuamen Castle)
#10 of 158 Sights & Landmarks in Nanjing
Truly mind-blowing the details of the triplicate walls, the gates, the views of the city from atop that seemed to stretch forever, and just the sheer size of it all!
A very steep slope right to the top of the castle style wall with some ancient artillery to view.

Then the climb to the 7th (and top) level of the tower is well worth the effort for the 380 degree views are spectacular, including the sight of the mighty Yangtze river which loops around this part of the city.
Walked to the top of the hill and reached to the tower and you may see anything below and the most part of the Nanjing Bridge of yangzi River will also leap into you field of view. Then you can took some good photos.

The pagoda is a war memorial, and if you climb to the top, you will get an amazing view of the Purple Mountain and Nanjing.
The three main sites to visit in Zijin Mountain Scenic Area, just east of Nanjing's city centre, are all worth the effort, but the effort is supreme.
