Even though it was snowy, I still had a great experience at the Great Wall of China. I climbed all the way to the top on the left side, but the ice made it a bit slippery, so I advise you to not go in winter. Anyways, a very unforgettable experience I had!

We visited the Palace Museum in July, a family of eight including two elderly disabled and four children 15,12,6 and 1 year.
You MUST buy your tickets online (we recommend for UK visitors to book these with an online tour company - you don’t have to get a guided one we didn’t) otherwise it will be a big disappointment and you will struggle to get in.
Your passport is then your ticket - make sure you carry your passport everywhere in China!

Seemed abit crazy trying to get in as there were lines everywhere, abit hard with the language barrier so persevere!
This is when having the elderly disabled with us as we were directed to a shorter queue. But overall in Beijing we did find being disabled quite tricky.

Lots of the indoor places to see have been fenced up and you cannot get in to to see them which is a shame. But the rooms we did access were good.

It was very busy but everyone was orderly and flowed. Don’t get spiked by an umbrella!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and despite staying around 4 hours we definitely didn’t allow enough time to see more within the grounds.
Must stop in any Beijing trip.

In the heat of July we visited the Summer Palace, a family of six including four children 15,12,6 and 1 year.

We did organise our ticket in advance, but this isn’t such a necessity as other Beijing attractions and last minute tickets can be bought.

It was very busy, like everything in Beijing in the school holidays but it didn’t spoil our trip. Everyone is so friendly and everything is so orderly.

We also waited in line for one of the small self drive private boats - a reasonable price in our opinion. We were expecting a lengthy queue for this, given the crowds but we were on our own little boat in just 22 minutes of joining the queue!

We definitely didn’t allow enough time for our visit to the Summer Palace and there is so much more to explore there for us - but just another great reason to be back one day.

If you're on a tight timeframe, the main temple structure is the only most notable thing within the grounds as other areas can be skipped. Most of the sites are covered with gardens so if you do have time on your hands you could easily spend hours here, ideal for picnics. There aren't many restaurants in the park but prices were reasonable. There's a connection to the metro on both the East and West gates, highly recommended, and no need to pre-book tickets nor use passport for entry.

A very secure place to visit, must have a passport for overseas tourists.
Plenty of space and heaps of photo opportunities.
Make sure not to discuss anything political with anyone while there, just enjoy it. There is a large museum, monuments and other buildings to visit if you have time.

Wow! What a park this is. The history is engaging and the nature is the beautiful. The flowers and small plants stand out especially. The grand finale at Jingshan park is the Birds Eye view of Beijing. On one side you can see the forbidden city and on the other you can see Beijing itself. It’s definitely worth the hike!

Beihai Park is a wonderful area to go for a stroll to get away from the crowds of the surrounding area. You can see some sights, like the 9-sided dragon and white pagoda, take a little boat out on the lake (which you are allowed to drive yourself), or just park up on a bench to people watch. There is something for everyone here

The widest pedestrian street in china, and the main place to sort all your retail shopping demands. Theres a wide number of international malls with dining options but I thought there was a lack of street vendor outlets compared to other Tier one city pedestrian streets. Still highly recommended

My wife had always wanted to visit Gubei Water Twon, but whenever we have time off work, so does the rest of China and this place is usually packed. The hotels are very expensive too; between 2,500-3,500 a night. We came during Tomb Sweeping Festival on a Sunday when the rest of the people had to return to work and we paid 900rmb. It turned out to be perfect because there were far fewer people and got to experience the place in comfort. Be prepared as virtually no one speaks English except for the hotel front desk and even that is not certain. The sights are fantastic, the food is okay and the comfort level on an off day was very uplifting. The drone night show was pretty cool and way more than what I had imagined as the drones laid out near the Great Wall. The hot springs are indeed hot and were not crowded. The ride on the waterway was short, but doable. The staff were welcoming and most people were pleasant. This should be on a list of things not to pass up during an extended stay in Beijing.

This is a very popular and important tourist place for local and overseas tourists. Huge place, only walking is allowed. Getting into is a security check process, lengthy que but efficient. Carry passport if from overseas.

The mall is stunning in the evening because of the LED ceiling outside. It's great for taking pictures or even for just going for a stroll.

The mall itself has the usual shops and food options, as with many other malls in Beijing. It is on the bigger end of the spectrum of malls in the city, though, so you won't find yourself bored in this place. Most brands here are foreign/international (e.g. Muji, Zara, H&M, Victoria's Secret, Starbucks, etc. There are many local options for food together with a few international chains.

This was our last stop on our Beijing trip. This had a nostalgic side to it, as the 2008 Beijing is the first Olympics I remember watching. The park is big, yet the sights are close together. You can view the Olympic stadium and the cube. It’s generally a nice walk through memory lane. There was an event starting when we got there too - an art & culture festival, which seemed like a lot of fun
