Everything was perfect from the pick-up at our hotel, the hike and the lunch in a family owned restaurant. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about Chinese history. The walk can be quite steep, so bring good hiking shoes. There are not so many people at this part of the wall and the photo opportunities are excellent.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. Had both sections of the wall almost to ourselves. Our guide, Adele, was excellent, telling us the history of the wall and guiding us on the hikes (take trainers or walking shoes - it’s mainly good underfoot but there’s a bit of scrambling and uneven ground on the non-renovated section). Food provided at a local restaurant was fantastic. Last, but not least, the driver was excellent and was there at the end of each hike with ice cold bottles of water! Worth every penny.

Since it was a chinese holiday, the tour company decided to begin the day earlier to avoid the crowds and traffic jam on the way back, which was a great call. We’ve arrived at the Great Wall, when almost no one was there! I was able to walk around places where the wall was completely destroyed, partially reconstructed and fully reconstructed. The views where amaaaazing! I know this is an expensive tour, specially if you go solo, such as myself, but it’s totally worth it. This company is very professional, the driver was great, and the guide was a lovely person to be around :) He explained a lot of curiosities about the wall, as long as its history, and answered all my questions. Lunch was also great, pretty local, with veg options :) They provide enough water and snacks a long the way. The hike is pretty easy, not much physical effort required. I can’t express enough my gratitude for this tour! Not to be missed while in Beijing!

If you are looking for a tour of the Great Wall without mobs of people this is the one for you! Don’t go to the touristy locations that include slides and a billion vendors- GO HERE. We went the second week in May after the holiday and found ourselves alone. We arrived at 9:00 am. Catherine Lu tours provided a great driver. He arrived early at the hotel- gave us water, made sure we got in the gate and was waiting with a cool vehicle when we were done. Absolutely worth the drive. We used Catherine Lu tours for several sites as we were able to customize anything and the prices were very good. We are from the US and she made us feel at home from the start. She knew about my flight cancelation before we did and contacted me right away. If you just want a driver, which is what we used for this particular tour, or a driver and a guide, contact Catherine Lu Tours. You won’t regret it.

It was a long journey, but we'll worth it. The guide (Michaelia) took us for a very nice traditional xi'an lunch in a local noodles restaurant..all the transfers made it very easy as the drivers and guides were very helpful.

The display pens are very busy so you get shoved around a bit but a great experience to see. 👍

We are a family of five with three children aged 6, 14 and 17. We booked a private tour in Beijing with our excellently Knowledgeable and professional guide Snow. She gave us so much insight into the different places we visited and it made a whole difference in understanding everything. She interacted patiently and kindly with our boys. That was very important to us that they would not get bored. She also gave us recommendations on what else to see and visit in Beijing. The local restaurant she recommended us was super delicious and she made sure that the people working there understood us. Definitely 100% recommendable. Ask for Snow when you book a tour with Leo.

The next day Our English speaking driver Bibber took us to the Jinshanglin Great Wall section to avoid the big crowds, especially during the long weekend of the Tomb Sweeping Holiday Qingming. It was much further away but all worth it. The scenery was awe dropping and even though there were a lot of people it was all manageable and definitely much better than Mutianyu or Badaling. We enjoyed our over 2 hour walk a lot and were especially happy about the blossoming peach trees around us. Bibber was very friendly and communicative. Absolutely recommendable!

Well, planned trip. The time on the Wall was enough to take excellent photos and enjoy the sights. Good feature is the organisers pick up from the hotel. The price is too high in my opinion. I think that tickets for a toboggan and cable railway should be included. The experience was amazing, but the additional costs were not. It was amazing to take part in the traditional ritual of tea making, and also see the craft jewellery-making process. I really recommend this trip.

Benny responded quickly to enquiries and was easy to communicate with. This was our second trip with him, hired a car with driver out to Jinshanling. Mr Warren the driver and Mr Sun, the driver from the first trip were both super nice and helpful.

This section of the Great Wall was about 3 hours drive out of Beijing but the views and zero crowd (in May) was worth it.

We wanted to do a loop so from the Front Gate, we went up to Taochunkou Pass via lots and lots of steps. That section had minimal restoration. It connects to the well-restored section, I think after West Five-window Tower.

We went down at Houchuankou pass where it started being nice and wild again and then went to look for the driver at the Front Gate. Even before that there were shorter routes to go down and a cable car option too. The views of rolling green hills were gorgeous.

On hindsight, we wished we had a phone line to call the driver so we could exit at East Gate. But the section after Houchuankou is not for the faint-hearted. Steep and unrestored so no side walls at some parts.

Beijing traffic in the morning and evening was horrendous, maybe we should have left earlier in the morning since the Great Wall opens very early.

There are local homestays within walking distance outside Front Gate that look clean and nice too. But transportation might be pricey apart from self-drive options.

Starting our adventure to the Great Wall of China was a breeze, thanks to our awesome driver who picked us up from our hotel right on time. The ride there was smooth and peaceful, getting us all hyped up for the day ahead.

Let me tell you, this isn't just a leisurely stroll—it's a serious climb. The tour covers about 6 kilometers of the Wall, and it’s mostly just steps, going up and down. They don’t kid around when they say it’s for fit folks. I work out pretty regularly, but I was definitely feeling the burn with all those steps. We were on our feet climbing for nearly three hours straight, with hardly any time to catch our breath.

The Wall is well-equipped, though. There are trash bins and toilets every kilometer, which is super handy. Just make sure to bring your own toilet paper because you won't find any there.

Also, there are small vendors selling drinks right on the Wall, but the prices are pretty steep. My advice? Pack at least two liters of water per person and some snacks to keep you going.

Shoe-wise, ditch the trainers and go for some solid mountain shoes. The steps are all over the place in terms of size—some are tiny, but others are massive, up to 45 cm high. And let me tell you, some of those steps are seriously steep.

If you're thinking there might be some flat parts to catch a break, think again. It's just endless steps up and down. By the end, my legs and calves were totally mush.

One heads-up: there aren’t any handrails, and some spots are pretty tricky to maneuver through. Each tower along the Wall does have a shelter, which is great if you get caught in the rain. We lucked out with just cloudy skies, but I bet those steps get super slippery when wet.

All in all, climbing the Great Wall is an epic experience, but it’s no walk in the park. It’s tough, but totally worth it for the views and the bragging rights. Just make sure you're ready for a workout and pack smart!

This was really a fantastic experience! I couldn't believe I could hike the Great Wall again soon after China is open. This time I took this private tour with my friend at Downtown Travel. Our guide Zak is perfect! He is very knowledgeable and patient, always ready to answer my question... And the tour was very well organized. We were rather flexible as there were only me and my friend in this private tour.

Jinshanling is by far the most appealing section of the Great Wall I've ever been (I took this tour years ago). I think will come back again to hike other sections of the Great Wall. For sure I will do again with Downtown Travel and Zak. I felt very happy!!!

Great driver and tour guide! Knowledgeable and friendly. The tour company was great in helping us tailor a tour to see exactly what we wished for in a very short time. For sure, right from the beginning of my web request I was able to get a personal and very detailed email back giving me all the details of my inquiry plus a sample of an itinerary that would be achievable within our time frame in China. What impressed me the most was the responsive nature of the travel consultant and the fact that everything they planned for us rolled out just as expected.

Every day had a new memory of the destinations, their stories and the local Chinese food was so tasty, Best holiday we have ever had!! There is no hesitation in recommending any one to book with ChinaToursNet.com. Fantastic job well done everyone involved. Thanks again

May was a great guide. A section of the wall was closed, but May found the detour trail and we were back on the wall in no time. The hike is tough, be prepared for climbing and scrambling over obstacles. Well worth it for the views without the crowds.
