Alvin, our driver, picked us up on time from the hotel and helped us with our luggage. We had a flight later that night and he made sure to get our details to get us to the airport on time. He helped with suggestions and after that we got to explore the wall. - Tomasz P1 contributionWell, planned trip. The time on the Wall was enough to take excellent photos and enjoy the sights. Good feature is the organisers pick up from the hotel. The price is too high in my opinion. I think that tickets for a toboggan and cable railway should be included. The experience was amazing, but the additional costs were not. It was amazing to take part in the traditional ritual of tea making, and also see the craft jewellery-making process. - Adele Robyn7 contributionsWe chose a Private Transfer without a guide to Jinshanling with Catherine Wu Tours because we wanted to explore the wall on our own. And we totally made the right choice!
From the outset, Catherine We Tours were great to deal with, communication was swift and clear, we were picked up and dropped of from/to our hotel with ease.
Our driver Lu Xiaolong went over and above to make our trip unforgettable.
If we could give him 10 stars, we would!
He shouted us a surprise breakfast after we forgot to eat before we left. He gave us snacks, water and was really friendly and helpful. His car was modern, comfortable, clean and well air-conditioned. We communicated easily via a translation app that Lu had on his phone 🙂 He has a wonderfuly positive outlook on life, is very knowledgeable and attentive.
Jinshanling was AMAZING. Most of the time we had the entire wall to ourselves, it was very relaxed, quiet and stunningly beautiful, a spectacular spot and good break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
There are so many photo opportunities at this part of the wall. Some restored parts and some left unrestored, which adds to the magic ✨
We highly recommend choosing Catherine Wu Tours and our driver Lu Xiaolong. He tailed everything to our family’s needs as we were travelling with our 3 kids ages 10 and 14. Peter shared so much interesting facts and history and was so friendly and engaging with the children. The hike itself was breathtaking with views of the ancient Great Wall winding through forests and mountains. - denineuxlachiertLondon, UK2 contributionsWe (my boyfriend and I) were at the Great Wall for about 3 hours, more than enough time to enjoy the historic majesty of this worldwide wonder, especially during sunset time. We hiked from east to west, around 6 or 7km, going after the sun. The sunset was beautiful and the mountain magnificent! We took a lot of good pictures!
It is a rather strenuous climb, and a must for good comfortable walking shoes. The section where we hiked (Jinshanling) is a challenge because the steps are of various heights and I found that climbing higher didn't enhance the expeirience.
Our tour guide Zac was the best tour guide I ever met in China. He is very patient, knowledgeable, amiable, and also very sensitive to our feelings and request. We learned a lot of history and traditions about China from him. We felt so thankful and lucky to have him as our guide.
Overall, this tour is the best choice I made in my China trip. Edward was our private tour guide on an amazing day hiking the Great Wall and visiting the Ming tombs. We were on a journey with the best Chinese English speaking guide. We had the added experience of tasting tea, shopping for Jade at the local factory and eating an amazing lunch between the two parts of the day. Edward was instrumental getting us place to place, in comfort and negotiating the best deals. When we come back again we would highly recommend using him again.
